Check Engine / VSC

Wife's '09 Avalon with 15K displayed these two lights the other day. Went to dealer and was told it needed a Oxygen sensor and they did not have one. Ordered the part nad we returned to have it installed yesterday. No problem on the way home. She drove to the grocery today and the lights are back on. Dealer says it's OK to drive till I get it back in there on Monday. Anyone have any ideas? Don't think the dealer has a clue!
Thks,
Russ

Quoted from TSB:
Some vehicles may exhibit a MIL “ON” Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0138 and/or P0158 (Oxygen
Sensor Circuit High Voltage Bank 1 or 2). In some instances a P2195 or P2197 (A/F Sensor
Signal Stuck Lean) DTC may also be present. This condition may be caused by incorrect Air Fuel
Ratio Sensor response. Additionally, a P0606 (ECM/PCM Processor) DTC may be present due to
incorrect Oxygen Sensor operation. The following repair procedures should be used to properly
diagnose and repair this condition

This sounds like it could get complicated so bear with the dealer on this one. If you think it's easy being a technician with the emissions they have today, then you have another thing coming!

On my 2007 Avalon, the VSC and Check Engine light went on two days ago. Took it to the dealer and found out it was one of the ignition coils. $200 for one coil. I would have changed it myself but finding the one that is out wouldn't be very easy with the way cars are built these days.

Turns out it was one of the front coils, the back ones are more tucked away.

Wow! I just noticed this post.

This happened again two weeks ago; coil #2 was bad. Another $200. haha

Time for an upgrade.

Do not purchase any Beck Arnley since they are made in China. I had the same problem, I went Toyota since they are made n Japan by Diamond Industries. I payed about 105.00 for one. Call Power TOyota in Tempe, AZ, Ask for Chad in Wholesale parts.

Rough idle from bad coil, yes.

No other problems to report.

Oh, heavy rain on the windshield is super loud! I guess that's why they offered a quieter windshield as an option. lol

*edit* I had the VVTI oil hose break as well.

I just had a coil go on my avalon on my 45 mile drive home for work. It misfired several times, then threw the check engine light, vsc light, and the skid light. I pulled the codes and it was P0356. Thankfully thats a front coil, not a back one. I replaced it after work. O'reilly has a lifetime warranty coil for 85.99 that is made in Japan. I took it for a 30 mile drive after I replaced the coil and it seemed to behave. Hopefully that is my only issue.
