Unhappy 2007 Touring DRL issue

Hi guys, I recently upgraded my 2000 XL to an 07 Touring, now the car is fine but it seems the DRL in the 2000 is a lot brighter than the DRL in the 07, is there anyway to adjust the brightness?

At first I thought the DRL high beams are old so replaced that, then it seemed the same so I tried switching DRL from my old Avalon to the 07 and same result, not as bright . Sorry but little things like this and seat belt chirping really drives me insane!

There's no need for the DRL to be as bright as another car's. It's not adjustable. The DRL runs the high beam bulb at lower voltage. If you really want brighter light during the daytime you also have the option of setting your lights to the 'on' position. That will bring up your headlights whenever you're running the car and it'll shut off after a couple minutes of turning off the ignition.

Silverstar high beams should cost you about 36 dollars for the bulbs themselves at autozone.

The guy there said they would not work. He looked up something on his computer and said they were $175 and he would have to order them. He said that the ones you mention would blow out because of the ballast connected to the HID light. It didn't make sense to me, but I didn't want to buy bulbs that would blow out nor pay that high price to order. What will work best for me?

This may be a "too late" answer, but....
Touring uses HID "High Intensity Discharge" bulbs ($35-$60@) for low beam lights.

$175 for a pair (?) is a huge rip-off

For bulb type & part number go here: http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...lacementGuide/

The DRL bulbs are the high beam bulbs run at maybe(?) ½ voltage.

The high beam bulbs are standard (( buy-em-at-pep boys/autozone/etc )) bulbs,
Not the expensive blue-white light you get on the low-beams.
Wal-Mart carries these high beams made by GE as cheap as $6-$8 each.

( Personally, I like the standard Phillips/Osram/Sylvania bulbs for output & longevity, all the stupid higher-priced bulbs burn out much much sooner than standard variety)

Got it figured out.

Thanks for your reply.

I finally got the correct bulb form O'Reilly's Auto Parts. They had to order it for me. Took one day. It was $46.99 + tax.

It is an EIK 9011 on the invoice, but on the box it says 9011 HIR 12V 65W.
Hope this helps someone else. By the way, I only had one out, so I was concerned it would not match the older one, but it did.

Thanks,
Bill

Confused as always . . .

2007 Avalon XLS. One of my DRLs is out.

- Could not find a part number at Autozone. I was told that it is a dealer item only.

- Went to the dealer, he asked if it was connected to a computer. I did not know and I did not have the car with me for them to look, but either way the part would be $65 or $86 for a single bulb?

- Does anyone know if there is another source? My DRL is not a dim high beam light. It is its own light on the inside corners of the headlight lens assembly.

Am I not looking at the DRL? It is the light that comes on when I switch to the DRL position. The converstation here seems to talk about a high beam. Is it something I can replace?

I'll try to make it clearer.

During the daytime, if you switch to the "auto" position, your DRL or Daytime Running Lights will turn on, at night your headlights will turn on in this same position and the DRL's are off.

The headlights are HID or High Intensity Discharge Lights and are much more expensive and much brighter than the DRL's.

The secondary function of the DRL's on the 2006-2011 Toyota Avalon is for high beam. During the day, the DRL's are using less wattage than when you manually use your high beams by pulling back on the turn signal stalk. This is why people are referring to them as high beams - since technically that is what they are.

When you look to replace your DRL's you need to look for "high beam" headlights. The generic PN is 9005 ex. Silverstar PN: 9005SU. $27 at autozone

Thank you Black Knight. I see what you're saying, makes perfect sense to me. Clears up why there is not a listing for DRL specifically at the parts store. What does not make sense is the dealer telling me up to $86. Changing a bulb is as simple as it gets but why I was asked about computers and such is beyond me.

Happy Holidays!
