Tire Pressure 06 Limited

I have a 2006 Limited I just bought used. I think the tire is a different size than on the XLS, but I cannot find this info.

Inside the door it says Tire PSI is 32.

On the Michelin Tires it says 44 PSI.

44 seems high, but I don't know.

Does someone know what the correct tire pressure is in the Limited tires?

Thanks so much.

I split the difference and put 41 psi.

Is this the right move?

The sidewall is max pressure for the tire, it has nothing to do with what you should be running the car at. The door panel is the correct spec. Adjust to personal preference if 32psi is too soft for you. The number on the side of the tire is a not to exceed number.

Thanks.
I'll have to bleed some air out.

I wondered why the door panel was different from the tire.
Thanks again

This is spot on and something that a lot of people do not know. You have to keep an eye on the guys at the oil change places as well, because they are not all properly trained.

Does too much air effect gas mileage?

Does more air keep the tires from wearing out?

Thanks.

To much air and the tire can bow up in the middle and cause premature wear in the center, too little and you can wear the outer edges too fast. Generally higher pressure can yield better mpg but a very small change compared to proper inflation levels. This all depends on the load you are carrying as well. Trucks tend to need different inflation pressures based on the large loads or trailers they are hauling.

+1

I keep my Gen 2 Avalon's tires at 34 PSI with no wear issues at all.

44 is the max before it goes boom! do not set it to 44!

32 is a tad bit low. I myself use 35 psi (test it when the car have not been in use for awhile as the tires heat up when in use)

I just put my new tires at 32, the rears look ok, but the fronts look under inflated. I will probably up it to 34 when I get back to IL.

I have a 2006 Avalon XL and the tires I have on it now are kept at 35 and wear has been great!!. MPG on long trips in the low 30s. I use synthetic oil--Mobil 1 and have for a long time.
