Amsoil and FIlter Change

Hello Everyone, Has anyone used Amsoil Signature Series for 35K miles or 1 year and just do the filter change in between oil changes? I'm wondering if you just change the filter, how much oil comes out of the filter housing. Thanks for your responses.

engine oil

I have a 2009 Avalon limited and use Castrol Edge full synthetic. Castrol is the best synthetic out there...they claim their oil has 8X the lubrication as Mobil 1.

I buy the Castrol Edge at Walmart for $26 for 5 qts. The Avalon takes 6.4 quarts so you need to buy 10 quarts for the extra needed per oil change. The additional 5 qts will give you 3 1/2 changes.

I go to my local Goodyear and they do the change using my oil. The last change was about $20...they provided the filter and labor. Just ask them what their cheapest oil change is...generally about $26..then ask them to deduct their oil value...usually comes out about $20. This way you get a full syn change for about $55 with the best oil you can get.

Recommend you change the full synthetic at about 5,000 miles...even though the Castrol advertising say it will go much longer.

Oil is the best thing you can do for your engine.

I am not a Castrol seller...do the internet checking yourself to see how good this stuff is. Better mileage, cleaner engine, longer engine life, etc.

35k between oil changes???? Yikes! It makes me nervous enough to think of doing 10k between oil changes.

anndel, if your car is still covered under Toyota's (or an aftermarket) warranty, you might want to inquire what effect a 35k-mile oil change cycle will have on the warranty. It'd be a shame to save a few bucks by lengthening the time between changes if your warranty is gone when you might need it.

I know these oil threads can bring out the worst in people, but for the life of me, I will never understand why people spend big $$$ on synthetic oil.

I have taken one Toyota truck past 400K(It's still running-new owner) and done close to the same with an Accord using standard motor oil whose specs lined up with what's in the owners manual.

The founder of AMS oil and Royal Purple oil were owners/founders of AMS oil. They split and Royal Purple is the same formula as AMS, other than the color. AMS oil is more expensive than Royal Purple. Now that it's more popular, Royal Purple is increasing in price. The only reason that I've switched to synthetic is because of the sludge or "gelling" as Toyota calls it.

I previously posted on another thread regarding this problem that toyota and VW have told their customers. Filter is a big factor here as well. It's a matter of choice, but for me with AZ heat and traveling to CA and TX, I go on the safe side and go synthetic, with change in filter 1/2 way through the oils life (i.e. Royal Purple states 10,000 miles, change filter at 5,000)

I have not used the Edge but it is well respected in Europe and I may start with my next car. I'll add that the filter is important too. Would not trust quick Lube filters- I go to Napa for their Gold made by Wix, Purolator Pure One and Mobil One is a good filter. I also use a Filtermag magnet on the filter. It works, I have cut the filter open myself.

Edit: AVOID FRAM
