Canada 2008 Avalon XLS No Power

All of the sudden:

1. can't start engine;
2. no radio or lights (inside/outside) at all;
3. can't even open doors or trunk using remote key;
4. can't start engine with remote control.

Dead battery or something more serious??

Sounds like a really dead battery. Try a battery from a friend or family car; that would be the easiest alternative to diagnose the problem without much expense.

I wonders me how sudden it could be to drain battery to complete zero. My avy is a backup car, weekend only driven for family.

Did someone leave a door slightly open, or a map light on?

There are several common causes of inadventent battery discharge, such as map or reading lights left on, or the dome light switch accidently moved to the "always on" position. A faulty trunk lamp switch or latch is another. Most of these could completely discharge a bettery during a long overnight, particularly if the vehicle is outside in cold climates.

I have the model with so-called automatic headlights ("auto" position on the stalk) that are supposed to turn off by themselves after 20 seconds or so. Unfortunately, they fail to ever turn off about 1 out of every 20 uses, depleting the battery in just a few hours. I have had this happen 3 times and have become contitioned to never use the "auto" position.

On the auto lights, if you hit lock on the remote, and then hit lock a 2nd time, they will shut off the lights instantly. I do that to make sure they go out and I can leave them set to auto.

Very good point. I never thought about that. And yes... I did use auto light on several times. Besides, I'm not using Avalon for a daily work commute (too comfy to drive ever day ). Occasional driving might just contribute to quicker than usual draining the battery. But it's just a thought. Couple last days temperatures were bitterly cold and week ago Calgary was second coldest place on Earth)). Now it's above zero, but still.
I'm getting a new battery this Saturday. Will see if problem will be resolved by replacing battery. I'll keep you posted.

Unlikely. However due to the recent snowing and cold temperatures trunk light could possibly be left on.

I don't think you will need a new battery. Just jump start it and you should be ok. Or just use a battery charger to recharge the battery. Getting a new battery just not necessary.
