Hybrid Navigation 5.1/7.1/8.1/9.1

Just bought a 2008 Limited the other day. I've been doing some research on the navigation upgrades. For whatever reason, most of the articles/posts I've seen leave out mentions for the Avalon. I want to make a hybrid disk to have the latest maps and still have the override option.

First, is the system in 2008 Avalons Gen5?

Second, is there any reason to want an 8.1/9.1 hybrid over the 5.1/9.1 hybrid most people mention? I also have the option for a 7.1/9.1 hybrid, as that's what my car has now.

Has anyone done this yet? I'll be glad to share my results when done.

It would be helpful (to me anyway) if you were to explain what the 'hybrid' means.

Use the loader file from one version and the map data from another. So you can still have the moving override hack from earlier version with the new data.

From some more reading it seems all these Avalons have 3rd Gen nav or earlier.

Thanks. I feel pretty good about being able to make a hybrid. I haven't been able to find a new map DVD for the Gen3 system the Avalon has. I need a Gen3 9.1 or 10.1 disc or disc image to do it. Everything available online (for testing purposes only) is for Gen5 or Gen4 nav systems or is really old.
