What Model Year is My Car?

I called my dealer concerning the recall concerning brake fluid leakage or something like that. I had not received a notification letter. I needed a tire rotation and thought I could get the recall problem taken care of at the same time.

They took my 2006 Avalon in and, in about 1/2 hour, the service manager came to the waiting room and said that I had a 2007 Avalon that did not need the recall update. I have checked my VIN before and it indicates a 2006 model. We bought this car in July,2006. Could it be that this is a 2006 car but, for the problem in question, it has 2007 updates? I really would like to know what I have. I don't follow cars and body styles so I can't tell one year from another.

Go here and register your car using the VIN:
http://www.toyota.com/owners/

On the left column of that page, click "Check for any open recalls or Service Campaigns on your vehicle"

Also click on the Parts and Service tab to see all maintenance and info related to your car.

Your year model is the 10th character of the VIN number. If it's a 6, you have a 2006. A 7 would be a 2007 model.

I have already checked the VIN. The 10th character is a 6. I also checked the recalls on my particular per the previous poster. It came back "No recalls on this vehicle.".

So, are they giving me the brush off or could my car have been updated with respect to the subject of the recall due to brake fluid or loss of it from the master cylinder?

I've seen many late year manufactured vehicles (you said yours was built in July of '06 and is listed as an '06) actually show some of the minor improvements of the next model year, especially when there are no major model changes between the years. This may be whats going on with yours.

If the Toyota website and the dealer both showed no recall for your VIN, I would feel comfortable with the fact that you don't need the recall...They are pretty much on top of that recently, with all of their issues, and wouldn't want another lawsuit on top of all the others....

fishing freak, Thanks. My VIN is outside the range(4T1BK36B06U164---). To give the service mgr. the benefit of the doubt, He probably interpreted the VIN being outside the range as a 2007 car.
