05 Limited won't start, battery seems ok but no sound when pressing start/stop

over the weekend, we picked up a 05 Limited. At the dealer, we were not able to start the car by pressing the start/stop. We need to keep it close to the button. Confirmed dead battery on remote.

After I got the car home, I rolled down all the windows and have the trunk opened for a couple days. This morning, I opened the door (had it opened for maybe 5-10 minutes) all the sudden no light. Double checked, the battery seems dead (~3.5V). Few hours later on a charger, it showed ~12.4V but when I tried to start, I heard the usual steering column release sound, but that's it. No sound from the motor at all. Turned on all the light, headlight, seems ok but still no sound from the motor.

I searched the net, someone mentioned the brake switch but not sure if that's the case. Any idea?

Trunk lid open for 2 days suggests the trunk light was on for 2 days as well, which may explain the dead battery. Unless you have a high current charger (>10amps), it will probably require more than a few hours to restore enough charge to operate the starter.

Also check to be sure the reverse (back-up) lights are working. The starter interlock is powered from the reverse lamps circuit. I had a bulb fail and blow the fuse for the back-up lamps. The push button would not operate the starter until the fuse was replaced.

thanks for the info, and yes you are right. The charger I have is an old style, 2amp. 12 hours later, I was able to start the car.

While waiting for the recharge, I notice the jump start method didn't work (at least for me). It was hard to locate a (-) point on the car and I just pick the little metal bracket in front of the battery but was unable to jump start (even though all the light got turn on ok)
