Engine Throwing Oil

I have a 2006 Avalon with 105,000 mile. Been an Avalon owner many years with not major issue. Last night while driving home I smell oil. Don't think much of it, thinking it must be something outside. 10 miles later, still smelling it. Then start hearing ticking from the engine. Look under the hood and see oil all over the left side (passenger side) of the engine and oil on the floor of the garage. Anyone got any ideas what has happened?

VVT oil line most likely. Has yours been replaced under the LSC?

Toyota has a "Limited Service Campaign" for the faulty VVT lines. They will replace it for free.

Pop your vin into this:

http://www.toyota.com/owners/sscinfo...call_vinlookup

It will tell you what recalls and LSC's are open for your car.

For G_Ds sake don't try to drive it to the dealer !!
Major amount of oil leakage, you're liable to burn out engine bearings, if you haven't already.

Check the dipstick, fill with oil, get it towed to the dealership.

When this first started happening - Avalon owners were losing 2GR-FE engines. Dealers(and Toyota) basically said "tough luck". Lots of horror stories on the WEB.

Then Toyota came clean with a TSB. I wonder if they finally ate all the damaged engines that were the result of this problem?

For that TSB, I don't think dealer will do anything unless there is complaint on oil leak am I right? (also only apply to specific year, mileage?)

in 12762Larry's case, it is over the warranty period, will Toyota actually do anything? Should let us know 12762Larry

If its the VVT line, warranty doesnt matter. It covers any vehicle until 2013 regardless of year or mileage.

They replaced mine without it leaking. I expressed 'concern' about the prospect of it blowing when I was in the middle of nowhere in Eastern Washington.

The replacement of the VVT-i oil supply line is an official recall SSC-90k.
They will replace it whether its leaking or not.
