Lying salesman...

I was looking for a new 2011 over the weekend. The salesman said they could add a backup camera to the avalon and it would be $995. Except, it is standard on the car, He also said there was no usb on the car.

Car salesmen can often be either dog , , or both. That's why it always pays to do your research before you hit the lot so that you don't have to depend on anything that comes out of their mouths. They're just a warm body along for a test drive as far as I'm concerned.

Not all salesmen know their stuff.....lol.....esp. if they are new or a new model year has come out with changes to the car (the Avalon was not one of them with significant changes....).

there are lazy people and hard working people. Salesmen who take time to learn about their products get my business.

If I feel like I know more than the sales guy, I look for someone else. (they didn't pay me to educate them )

Please do not lump us all into one group. I pride myself in my product knowledge, and am always on the road to continuous improvement. But just cannot stand when all salespeople are categorized as scumbags, clowns....whatever.

I don't think the salesman was lying. Even for the LTD the backup camera is optional.

^It depends on where you are.
Every region has a little bit different options/standard equipment.

Here in the Chicago region the backup camera is STANDARD on both the Base and Limited Avalons.

That's why I said "can often be," instead of all of them are. But point taken, no problem.

A salesman who has worked at a toyota dealership for 5 years should know the product line inside and out. They do normally train their salesmen.

The way I see it is "buyer beware", don't rely on the sales guy/dealership for product knowledge, do the research yourself before you go in, rebates, pricing, options and other specs... everything down to resale and reliability etc... then the sales guy can't BS you into buying the car "good guy" or not, they will have to earn your business and find you what you want for the price you want etc...

I agree. And I've had so many unpleasant experiences with sales staff that I will no longer deal with them. I build the car online, request quotes from every dealer within 50-miles (and that's a lot!). The one that has what I'm looking for and offers me the best deal is the one I go to. Then it become a simple transaction, do the walk-around, sign the papers and drive it away. Almost every dealer has an internet sales specialist. It's the most no-hassle way to buy that I can think of.

I got my avalon the same way, though it was used. Online deal. Told them I price I was willing to pay, accept or don't. No bickering, no "4 square" sales form, etc. Simple and easy.

That is certainly a decent price, as long as they don't 'hose' you on the trade....
