I'd suggest Toyota's own ExtraCare Platinum, $0 deductible. And I'd shop out of state, Florida requires (IIRC) Florida dealers to sell the plans at Toyota's list price.

I'm looking for a good extended warranty, do any TN members have any experience with warranty companies. Good, bad, and the ugly!
You'll want to look at this thread in the General Discussion forum, particularly click on the link in reply #5 for more info. Specifically, Jerry Johnson is the man to contact. He's hugely popular among TN members and for very good reason.
P.S. -- This 2nd Gen Highlander thread has extensive discussion about extended warranties, and for the latest raves about Jerry just read the last couple of pages.

Gottal plus one one this...he is also highly praised in the Edmunds Toyota Avalon Forums for very aggresive pricing on the genuine Toyota extended warranty. I'd check it out and give Jerry a call. Can't go wrong with the actual Toyotacare warranty!
good contact from some TN members but if the car is out of factory warranty, the price will be higher
And probably doesn't make sense to get ext. warranty. Without knowing the year/mileage on your car. It's hard to say but my advice is not to go with unknown company.
Back then on my 97 Camry, I bought ext. warranty online ($1200) and they claimed if I don't have any claim during my 7yr/100k miles, I would receive $850 back. Well, I never had a claim since my Camry was pretty good but 3 months before the ext warranty expired, the company went out of business
I bought ext warranty on our 04 Sienna in 06, I did have a few claim that kind of made even with what I paid. When I got my 06 Avalon Limited, we skipped the warranty. Few months ago we got another 05 Limited, again, I skipped the warranty as well.
If you do want warranty, I suggest the toyota one, not 3rd parties. Even better, don't chicken out on your Avalon, take the risk and drive it without warranty

I bought a used 2008 Avalon with 46k miles. I am interested in obtaining an extended warranty since my factory warranty has expired. I am skeptical of most aftermarket extended warranty companies, but just wanted to ask if anyone has any good stories or should I just forget about purchasing a warranty?

Most of the discussion here has to do with extended factory Toyota warranties that can only be purchased before your new car warranty expires. I have contacted Jerry in TN (mentioned in this thread) and asked about this, just in case there was a chance I could purchase a Toyota extended warranty (you can't) Since my car does not have any remaining factory warranty I simply asked if anyone had experience with an aftermarket firm. I did see the referral to the general discussion area but I did not think it was a crime to ask the question in this thread about after market warranties. So to answer your question. Yes I did read the entire thread and also read it again before now replying to you.

pilot,
My past experiences with aftermarket warranties for vehicles has been more than enough to keep me away from them, period. The companies are difficult to deal with and hard to get ahold of, just to be treated with red tape and delays. Then, they either deny your claim or go out of business. Save your money if that's all you can get.

I agree these warranties are not worth the money.
I just cancelled my Toyota warranty that I baught when I got the car because everything I needed done they found a reason why they won't cover it so after driving 8000 miles since I got the car and finding no problems I figured that odds of something going bad that they WILL cover and cost more than my warranty are slim to none.
