Alarm for Avalon content theft

I have a 2005 Avalon..all keyless. I don't really trust the "no-key" feature. When we travel, I'm concerned about the luggage and stuff that we leave in the car parked at the motel. Is there a recommended simple alarm that works with the cab light and/or other entry used to steal the contents of my car?

Thanks...I love the Avalon, but am too old-fashioned to depend on the electronic locks.....Wes

I know that on my touring there is no way to lock the truck, do the Limited's have the option of locking the trunk?

The limited has the Valet feature to where you remove the key from the FOB and this ONLY allows Valet to move the car but not access the trunk.

Actually, you can open the trunk without the key or the fob if the doors are unlocked - just press the truck release button on the dash. That's always been a concern of mine. But - as hghflyrjd1 said, with the fob and the key removed - you can lock the glove box and the valet can't access that.

Regarding the concern over the electric door locks, they're no less secure than a key-locked door. In my mind they might even be more secure since there's no lock cylinders to punch.

That's my understanding.
- use the glove box button to lock the truck
- use the small key from the fob to lock the glove box
- use the small key to lock the rear access (behind center seat)

Now the key fob, the trunk release on the driver side and the trunk release on the trunk, they all disabled

Once its confirmed, you can just give the valet the keyfod but remember to take the samll key with you

Wups! Read the manual....

....dummy. Thanks for the reply and reading the manual really helped. Looks like the items locked in the truck can be really fairly secure with the Valet protocol. So, I'll place my high-value items in the truck when I travel.

I guess I'm spooked because of friend of mine, while we were traveling, told me at breakfast that the trunk in my car was open and that he had closed it for me. I'm wondering if some hacker can figure out the electronic code. Even though we were in Butte, Montana, I figure hackers are everywhere.

Must of been a fluke and I'll just keep on relying on Toyota to have those things figured out. Thanks to all for your input...Wes

There is a trunk cancel button in the glove box. Prevents the trunk release from working.

Sorry for the blurry pics, crappy camera.

On my 99 it's the actual switch, which I think is stupid, very inconvenient. I may mod to be like the 3rd gen. Need to look at the Wiring Diagrams and compare.

I took a look at the manual last night. What do ya know - there's a button that locks-out the trunk remote-open button in the glove box! You'd think that after almost 4.5-years and 109000 miles that I would have accidentally discovered it by now...

I have the 2008 Touring and it does have the button. What year do you have? It's a little hard to find, it took me about 2-3 minutes even while I knew the general area it was in!
