Ok, so I ended up with the 2011 Avalon Limited w/ nav, (It was this or a 2008 Lexus, and well this was the best deal).
Ok, so I put in a CD, and nothing shows up in the screen, and that's the same isue when using a new iPod Touch.
Both work and play music, but no track names or information with CD's and nothing when I try the iPod. I've tried the iPod with both the USB and other cable. With the USB, I get a message saying an Accessory is hooked up or something like that, but I can't get past that screen.
I've read the manual, and looked on line and find nothing … Help!
Push the "Audio" button and at the top of the screen you can select "AM" "FM" "Satellite" "CD" "Bluetooth" "AUX", etc. Pick one of them, in your case, CD, and you will see the information displayed about the song.

Did that, and nothing
The CD shows up, but no information at all about the tracks / song titles or anything.
The video online shows just what I'd like to see, and expected to see, but nothing.
Sometimes it depends on your CD. Not all CD's have the capability to show track information. Not all of mine will show information in my Camry, it just depends. The same thing goes for FM stations, some will show you the artist/song, some won't.

Ok, so I can (sounds like have to live with this), but what about the iPod not showing up in the screen?

I Think It Might Be The Actual Ipod...They Update These Things All The Time And So Ur Ipod Might Be Too Up To Date For The Cars System...For Instance My Girl Has The 08 scion XB It Comes With Ipod Interface. The Interface Charges Her Video Ipod And Shows The Text On The Radio And Also The Ipod Says SCION After u Plug It In And U Cant access The Ipod Only The Headunit...If I Plug In My 3GS Ipod Touch,It Wont Charge It,It Says Accessories In Use,And Then I Can HAve To Press The TEXT Button On The Head Unit To Make My Info Come Up...BUT The Interface In My Car Treats Both Ipods How They Should...So U May Have A Similar Situation
Congrats on the car! Is the IPOD playing music when it is plugged in the USB slot or no? What kind of IPOD is it?
iPod Touch, the newest model.
When I use the USB plug, is when I get the "An accessory is plugged in" message. If I use the standard cable, I can get it to play music, I just don't see anything on the screen.
I'm pretty sure the last time I plugged it into my Mac, it said it was up-to-date, but I will check again.
I think the issue is not that your i-pod is up to date, but the car is not up to date with Apple. The ipods change so often that the auto industry can't keep up and you can't update the software in the Avalon to keep pace.
