A total redesign is planned for '13 expected for spring/summer '12. I have not found anything specific. Ford and Chevy have already released press info on Youtube for their '13 Taurus and Malibu. Does anyone have info in the 13 Avalon? I was all set to get an '11 last week and decided not to buy at the end of the production cycle and wait a year. Avalon is at the top and will likely be the choice assuming it rides and drives as nicely as the current model.

Following the traditional 5-6 year life cycle, the Avalon should be due for a redesign. It's already gone through two facelifts. They might be going the way of the Camry and releasing it without any prior announcements.

When I saw the 2005 redesigned model, I checked it over very well and compared to a Lexus LS 250 and LS 350. For the money saved, Avalon is a better deal (it's called a poor man's Lexus...whatever!) Anyway, I was always told by friends (Service managers) working for Honda and Nissan to wait for the second model year (at least) because there are almost always "bugs" that are being worked out EVEN AFTER full production. For example, the VVTi hose '05-07, master cylinder, ect.
Had I been patient, I would've waited 2 years Nonetheless, it's been a great car for last 5 years.

I always thought that was true for domestic cars especially GM bot not for Honda and Toyota. Things do change of course. One wold think if the engine and drive train is the same (often it is) going to a new body should not create new bugs. Toyota has been doing VVTi for a while and should know exactly how to build it by now and should not have to reinvent the wheel with a new model- I know it happens with many cars. It reminds me of the Chrysler 440 engine with nylon timing chain sprokets that wore down to nubs after 90K or so- how could they think that was a smart idea.
Toyota has been using the current 3.5 since 2005 (on the Avalon) and "tested" it for couple years before putting it on the 07 Lexus ES and 07 Camry V6.
Other then the VVTi oil house "problem" and LOUD "knocking" noise, the engine seems pretty smooth and powerful.
Will that be a 3.7 eng + 6 spd tranny in the future? I don't know.
The current Avalon is on it's 3rd exterior with NEW interior style. It sure will be a long wait for 2013 and Toyota is very good keeping the new design from media/spy. We probably won't see any leak unit a month or 2 before the launch of the new design.
Lucky for folks who has the current Avalon, we are not going to be out dated for a while

Well the older Camry had the 3.0, while the Avalon had the 3.3. Then Avalon upgraded to 3.5 during the 3rd generation and later the revised Camry got the 3.3. Probably right, they'll probably increase engine output with same V-6 block and transmission, but the body style is what will be interesting. I'm sure they're not going to go through a major engine restructuring when they can use the "off the shelf" components. Especially now with some of the Japanese automakers dealing with their losses.
The new Avalon is in the works for a 2012 or 2013 model (I'm going to assume it won't be ready until the 2013 model), but I know it's far enough along that my source says that it's pretty cool looking.
I am 85% sure that the 7th gen Camry is coming out with the 3.5 V6 still, so maybe by the time the new Avy comes out they'll have a new motor, but maybe not.

The Avalon had the 1MZ-FE for the first generation, then was updated with VVT-i in the 2nd gen, and received the 3.5 2GR-FE for the 3rd gen.

Been gathering more info. Speculation at this point but about a year is the current thinking. Hyundai just updated their website and the 2012 Genesis is out, one can no longer build an 11. I hope Toyata moves the '13 Avy this soon next year but it could be November 2012 also. The Genesis is on my short list. For '12 it has a new 8 speed trans with a 330hp GDI 3.8 V6-rated at 20/29, also has LDWS pioneered by Infiniti 7-8 years ago. it will be a very interesting period of homework for me over the next year.
I drove an 08 LS460L with 30K yesterday and was very disappointed: It floated and bobbed up and down the freeway like a 30 year old Sedan DeVille with bad shocks and the steering was imprecise. The Lexus guys tell me it is the air suspension, likely set on soft- I don't know. I will drive an '08 SWB this week and if it is anything like the L, it is off my list before quick.
Edit: I predict that Toyota knocks the design out of the park with a grand slam- Very likely to be my top choice.
