Well I think my oil line blew. I had an appt next tuesday for all the recalls and the oil line replacement.. Oil light flickered when I got off the highway from my drive home from work. Got home and there was oil all over the bottom of the car and in the engine bay. The oil light never lit solid, flickered a couple times. I didnt really hear anything odd. Do you think there's still a chance I could have damaged the engine? It took 3, to 3.5 qts to top it off. After I did so I started it for a few seconds and it sounded normal, but after I revved it a little it was leaking oil all over. The dealer doesnt have any openings until tomorrow or thursday, but its being towed in now .

I’m sure your fine I know a few people who ran their cars completely out of oil and all their cars still run fine just don’t keep driving it without oil
Yea... I'm hoping its OK. I managed to procure a loaner car, a 2 door accord v6, it is no where near as nice. Gonna miss the avvy while its being fixed. 90 miles a day on a sporty seat, hopefully I can still walk when I get out of the car... Not too keen on using the 'burb for commuting when it gets like 12mpg with the big motor.

Just as a CYA...write to Toyota Care, keep copies of all your documentation/receipts with the dealer and parts used. I hope you're on the dealer's ass about installing the all metal oil line. From what you're describing, seems your engine be may ok, but better safe.
I just ordered mine, but installing it myself (since I'm replacing one coil #1 against the firewall), I've already made room so I'm doing this at the same time. I'm sure it will work out. THere is a separate posting on here under VVTi oil line. check it out....you're in good company

Just had the all metal line installed today and a big weight came off my shoulders as I feared this happening to me. Mine had already had the recall done , so I paid out of pocket, but good piece of mind.
2 minutes later though the pressure was back as my limiteds rear shade broke a clip that retains the arms in the channel and they are initially saying that it isn't covered by any of the warranties on the car and that you have to buy the complete unit as they don't sell any components - estimated parts and labor - $1057.00
I may have to write to toyota care for this instead of the oil line.
Well.. I got the car back. They did a really crappy job. The line was replaced, and they topped off the oil, even after explaining it was down 4 qts, and I dumped in a bunch of 10w30 instead of 5w30 or 5w20. So I had to fight with them to do a full oil change. They also did an extremely poor job of cleaning all the oil out of the engine bay. It was still covered in oil as was the entire bottom of the car when I got it home. I spent hours with a brake cleaner and simple green, and it STILL smells like burning oil after a few days. I also do not believe they roadtested the car, as the engine is ok sounding at idle, but there is a definite noise that wasnt there before above 1500 rpm. The only saving grace so far was that toyota picked up the cost of the tow. Very Disappointing. Makes me think twice about keeping this car long term.

It's rare that an auto dealership will put much care into a car as the owner will. After all, they are all about number (how many cars can they get in and out). I used a power washer ( with warm water) and diluted purple cleaner, then a ait compressor to get the oil off when my car returned from the dealership a few years back. Brake cleaner work well in small areas, but you've got a fluid that ran into some tight crevices, in and around the heat shield of the catalytic converters and where ever there is heat emitting from the engine. I'd suggest jacking your car up, put some stands (this is what I did) and wash it underneath. Just don't put too much water on the electronic parts (just use pressurized air to flush the water off).
About your rear window shade, contact Chad (wholesale parts (480) 598-0000. Ask about this issue regarding the parts. Your engine should be fine, I don't know what kind of oil your dealership uses, but consider using whatever oil you use. I checked my engine over very well and didn't notice any significant noise after my oil line burst, but our circumstances may be different. Otherwise, go toe-to-toe with your Toyota dealer and the best of luck.

Reason: additional information
Must be crossing posts, my sunshade works fine. I think my engine is starting to quiet down. I believe its pulley noise or something coming from that side of the engine. Oil was all over the place and maybe its finally starting to work its way out. The gas mileage is normal, got 31.7mpg on my 43 mile trip home, so it seems to be ok otherwise. Hopefully it all works itself out.

Sorry about the rear shade...ANyway, oil and belts do not mix well. It leads to premature deterioration since they are made from the same basic material, crude oil. I've seen this many times from leaky valve cover gaskets, front seals, ect. Simply wash it as previously suggested. I'm off to change my own, got the parts in yesterday, but WILL NOT take it in to the dealership simply because I can do the work, save money and I have better control over the results. Looks like you're situation is turning out for the better....
