2008 Avalon 91K miles wheel bearing

I’ve got a 2008 Avalon Touring model with 91K miles that’s in the shop having a driver’s side wheel bearing replaced. I’m wondering if the wheel bearings are an issue for this year model. I’ve got a Honda Accord with 189,000 on it and never replaced a wheel bearing. I don’t want another Honda, but I thought wheel bearings didn’t go bad anymore.

I had one go in my old Mazda Millenia at about 90k, not entirely unheard of. You may as well replace both just to be safe.

I'm picking it up today

Bill,
I'll keep you posted, as I'm picking it up today. I'm thinking around $250. Boosted, I agree with you, but I don't know if they did both or not.

91K might be normal if your daily commute included a stretch of driving thru creeks/rivers.

If not - that's way too soon.

There has been yack on maybe this and other areas of the internet about faulty Avalon wheel bearings. There may even be a TSB on it which should bring the price down to 0 if your warranty has not expired.

As a habit, I always give customers their old parts (when I was a service adviser at an import shop, we also took pics on a digital camera to show the damage). Ask for the hub bearings, just to make sure they did replace them. Also, it serves to take a look under the car and see if the bolts/nuts were disturbed. I've learned to get a white automotive marker and place marks on nuts/bolts. I've learned to trust, but verify!

I have never seen any of the old parts at all when take my car for works/services. I think it will be great so customer know more about what's going on.

Wait, they do show me something.... "oh, look at your dirty cabin filter, air filter and they need to be replaced ($50 for the cabin filter, another $40 for the air filter...)
