I just got back from my first vacation with my 2008 Avalon. I had a 2010 Tundra...but 19 MPG was the pits. The highway MPG on the Avalon averaged 31 MPG. I just have to say that for a car this comfortable with this much room, that it just can't get much better than this!

Awesome,I just got back from 245 mile each way ride with my 2009 with 20s, subs in the trunk, luggage packed tight in the trunk, 3 adults and 2 kids..and got 27.1mpg so i am quite confident 30+ mpg is easy in these Avalons.
I got 33mpg on a 300 mile trip, avg. speed was about 75mph. Couple bags in the trunk, passenger and the dog in the back seat. On the way back, I got 29mpg, avg. speed 80mph, another 300 miles.
It's been my experience that the mpg reported on the dash display is a tad optimistic.
Only way to know your mpg is to use the old-fashion method.
Fill up - reset either the A or B trip meter - drive - fill up when it's time - do the math.
I've always been curious as to how Toyota calculate the MPG displayed on the console.
Are they using a flow-meter or some device that measures the injector actions?
Another case. About to take a trip in '11 Base. First outing on interstates for over a few miles. Has been averaging 26 around town and 28.5 on short trips.
This is ~3 fewer mpg than the car it replaced ['04 Accord EX cpe V6/6spd manual], so very curious. BTW, my Av on-board calculator for mpg is ~1.3mpg optimistic always. The speedometer is also about 2.5 mph high at true 60.
Thanks for sharing your mpg figures, esp when actually calculated.
