2007 Backup sensors

Has anyone had problems with the reverse sensors? Mine just started a constant beep when in reverse. Anyone ever test a sensor or know anything about them?

Unless I'm mistaken, the '07's didn't come with OEM backup sensors. I've got an '07 that's fully equipped and it doesn't have them. Could yours be aftermarket?

I don't think it was even available as a port installed option. Dealer add-on most likely. My friend's RAV4 had a dealer installed backup sensor.

Wasn't dealer. All Toyota's in this area come from Gulf States Toyota out of Houston. This car had it when it hit the dealer. I ordered it and it took 3 days to dealer. I will have to dig up the sticker and see if it is listed.

I found this in a description of a 2005 Avalon Limited a guy ordered new in Texas:

"It had everything I ordered - NAV, VSC, Laser and the ExtraMile Package, which consists of Toyota's Parking Pilot (a four sensor back-up assistance), remote start, Avalon mats, a silver and platinum pinstripe, various other minor niceties, and 6 year, 100K mile tire replacement."

Hope this helps.

Mark

Here's a link to a brief discussion on this site:

Park Pilot / Park Assist Button - '05 model

and here's another:

Park Pilot question

Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything on how to resolve the constant beep issue.

A lot of that stuff is considered aftermarket. That texas car is considered a GST(Gulf States Toyota) vehicle. GST is a separate entity from Toyota Motor Corp. GST buys cars from Toyota and equipts them with thier own accessories. The package they are talking about is all stuff that they sell but it's not from Toyota. Kinda confusing huh?

We working on a car with a similar problem and what was determined to be the problem was that there was too much pressure pushing on the sides of the sensors because the holes in the new bumper were drilled "not perfectly round." Is there anything that might have caused the sensors to recieve any unneccesary pressure?

If they've been painted over, if you've waxed the car and there's residue on the sensor, maybe some mud on the sensor?.

It's also possible they are aimed incorrectly. I'm not quite sure how you check for that but you might have to see a dealer for that.

I hope some of that might help.

If you can locate the control module (hint: follow the wires from the sensors), the 4 sensors usually plug into it. Unplug one at a time and test to see if the problem clears.
Spare sensors can be ordered online from several vendors; just Google "reverse sonar sensor". In 30 seconds, I found a set of 4 for $20 in standard colors; $40 for a custom color to match your factory paint code.

I installed an aftermarket unit in my 2005 Avalon and experienced identical symptoms to yours when a sensor failed.

I have an 07 TUndra with the sensors and camera, but I should would like to have at least some sensors on my Avalon. I've misjudged the depth and have tapped the bumper a few times. How has your system worked? Satisified with it? Any information is greatly appreciated!!!

Refer to this link, which describes my 2005 install:
http://members.cox.net/n0v8or/avalon_awell_install.pdf

The system has worked fine for more than 6 years. However, one thing I would do differently is to mount the outer 2 sensors closer to the center of the vehicle. Particularly during winter, exhaust gas "clouds" obstruct those sensors resulting in intermittent false beeps when backing up.
