Tires

I have a ( bought it new in '08) '08 XL Avalon. I'm about to need new tires now. They came with Bridgestones. I have about 32,000 on them now. They ride good. But would like to get alittle more miles out of a set tires. Is there any good tire that rides nice and I can get more then 32,000 miles out of them?

I'm running Continental Extreme Contact DWS. So far I have over 20k on them and they barely have a hint of wear. They also have crazy wet and winter traction. Best tire I've had in a long time. They have a 50k tread warranty. I suspect I'll actually get more than that out of them. I rotate every oil change.

Hard to believe you got over 25,000 miles on those junk tires. You must drive easy. Mine were about shot shen I swtiched them out at 8,500 miles.

Since you have an XL, you probbly have 205/60/16 tires vs the 215/55/17 that come on Avalon XLS and Limited. In any event, to avoid having to beat a dead horse, after I spent countless hours trying to figure out which tires to put on my Camry V6 on which I put Avalon Limited 17" 9 spoke wheels, I selected the Michelin Primacy MXV4. They were the number one performance all season in the consumer reviews posted on Tirerack.com. I am extremely pleased with performance and tread wear. With over 30,000 miles on them now, they are not even half worn. Although it is only an H rated tire, they handle and ride much better than my Turanza V rated.

Consumer Reports Magazine in about late 2009 rated the Primacy MXV4 with 60,000 mile treadwear warranty as best H rated tire. They rated the Pilot Exalto A/S as the best V rated performance all season. But those only carry a 45,000 mile treadwear warranty so unless you are a "spirited" driver, the H rated tire should be fine. Now Michelin makes an MXM4 with a V rating and 55,000 mile warranty.

I have made multiple posts on the virtues of the MXV4. Here is my lastest commentary-see post #4:

Also, I got a much better deal from NTB than I could have from tirerack.com because they were having a buy 3 get one free sale - especially when you consider the cost of mountinng balancing and road hazard ..... not to mention free tire rotations and lifetime balancing for as long as you own the car.

Good luck.

Wife got 77K out of the Bridgestone RE92s that came with car. I would hope for better than 32K.

The Bridgestone HP550s(Sears) I switched to have been a huge disappointment.

Can you say LOUD.

I've got the Goodyear comfortread touring on my car they have an 80,000 mile warranty and ride really nice, the Michelin MXM4 may be better but cost a lot more money.

Just got a new set of Michelin Primacy last month. Love it. So quiet and improved my 08 touring ride a bit.
Also bought a set of Latitude Tour for my wife's 08 CRV and they are great tires as well.

I'm on my third set of Michelin's. The other two sets lasted about 50k to 55k miles each. I opted for the MXV4 S8 model. Excellent tires! Stop waiting - get Michelin!

Goodyear Assurance. I've got 30,000 on a set right now and the wear to date tells me they're good for at least another 30,000, and that's with a 70/30 city/highway split. Just make sure that you have both axles aligned and not just the front axle. A common problem is people forget about all those curbs that are "kissed" or otherwise run up and over when people are trying to make tight right-hand turns at a curb, which throws the right rear wheel out of alignment. It's a common problem.
