Unhappy HELP! Poor Gas Mileage

05 Limited with 66K and I get only 16.8 mpg in the city, no junk in the trunk. The only change was new tires 235/50/17 @ 32 psi.
Any help would be helpful with gas costing so much.

How long have you had your new tires?

Just observe the usual: inflate your tires to at least 32 PSI (IMO 34 or 35 PSI is better), don't jackrabbit start, take your foot off the gas and coast up to lights, and on the highway don't drive over 70 MPH. I've got a Gen 2 and average 19 MPG city, but these Avalons really shine at highway mileage. I get 31 MPG at 65 MPH, and with a city/highway split of 70/30 I average 22 MPG. With your Gen 3 almost 17 in the city isn't bad, but don't expect too much more than that.

Ya, just don't like press the accelerator just to pass a car. I dont really know how to explain this . As loing as you keep a constant speed without "jackrabbiting" then you should b fine. I got 15 mpg when I did that a few months ago.

Check your air filter, change oil, and make sure that your tires are inflated properly. The Air filter should help you some if it is a little bit dirty. When I got my 2010, I got about 17 mpg. Once I changed the oil, air filter, and put my tires to 35 psi, I get around 20. Like the others said, it will shine on the highway. I also get roughly 28-30 mpg there.

Good Luck!

I don't know - plugs and wires, maybe? If this happened "coincidentally" with your new tires, I think the rest of us should know what you bought... I sure don't want to see mine drop (assuming yours did)

I've managed 34 mpg on interstates, but you have to drive like there's a fresh egg under your foot, and you don't want to break it.
S L O W acceleration at all times.

You're are never going to see over 19 or so in the city, if that's a major problem, get thee a Prius, and get 40+ mpg in the city.
