Avalon gas pedal is too sensitive

Hey guys I have a 05 XLS about 65k miles. When I bought the car almost 2 years ago it had just had the pedal recall done and I always thought the gas pedal was just too easy to push. It kinda feels like I could just lay a shoe on the gas pedal and that would push it down like half way. The problem this causes for me is when I am driving at a low speed like in a parking lot its like driving a stick shift car in a really low first gear. I barely touch the gas pedal and the car jerks forward then I let off and it jerks back. It really annoying and if the engine is cold it is even worse. From the outside I probably look like somebody trying to learn to drive a stick shift!

Has anyone else noticed this? I was thinking about calling a local dealer and seeing if the tension of the pedal can be adjusted. I wonder if the pedal is still under any kind of warranty.

most of us feel the other way around, a delay on gas pedal.
I feel like it take a bit for it to response compares to older car

Typical of gas pedal recall-that is why I declined it

I am convinced dealers often error when doing the recall. There are multiple posts on this somewhere. I was given a Camry rental for a few weeks after mine was rear ended in an ice storm. The rental camry had just had the pedal recall done and it was more like it had an on off switch at the throttle than a conventional gas pedal.

I have brought this up before, but here is my photobucket account link that shows the difference between my untouched one with all weather floor mats ...... that continues to work PERFECTLY, and the "el junko" job done on the recall. [a few other pics in there as well]

See http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/sh...90#post3094190
(my posts 19 & 22) plus post #106 dated 2-10-2010 which mentions new pedals will be available on request.

I have declined all safety recalls on my 09CamryV6 [same drive train as an Avalon] because everywhere I read, the cure is worse than the disease.

But ------ the good news for you is that there is a redesigned gas pedal mechanism. Before my move to Florida, I asked my Kansas dealer to install the redesigned pedal and bypass the goofy "quick fix" that all sorts of complaints are registered. The service manager told me Toyota would not pay for it unless the first fix was done and the customer complained. He told me to just let them go through the mechanics of the prescribed fix and then bring it back for the real fix ----- when means replace the entire mechanism, not just the pedal itself. I believe the faulty pedals were made by CTS but the Denso pedal is superiour.
See:
http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/201...r-denso-pedal/

entitled: Why Toyota Must Replace Flawed CTS Gas Pedal With Superior Denso Pedal

I passed on it all because I was in a hurry due to the move to FL.

Anyway, so you should be able to go to your Toyota dealer to install the entire replacement mechanism by telling them and showing them how bad the first fix was and get an entire new mechanism.

If they tell you yours is normal ...... just say ..... well, let's pull another Avalon off the lot and drive them both.

The gas pedal recall "sesitivity" problem was note in this Tundra forum as well:
http://www.tundranetwork.com/forum/t...tive-gas-pedal

Same thing on floormats. Notice in my photobucket picture that my all weather floormats secured to the floor with clips no way come even close to the accelertor pedal ..... yet I just got an urgent letter from Toyota last week telling me to bring the car in immediately for this important safety item of replaceing my all weather floormats .... and the accelerator pedal recall ..... and the transmission flash. I do all my service work at the dealer and my car suns so flawless .... I always decline all recalls except the vvt-i oil line recall.

[Sorry I don't have all the right links to send you ..... unfortunately my computer ... albeit under warranty and fixed for free ... had the hard drive crash several weeks ago ..... and although all my data files and programs were backed up, I lost the hundreds of bookmarks, including all the ones related to Toyota]

To others in the toyotanation forums: please help this guy with more specifics if you have them. I will add an edit later if I find something useful.

Count me out.

'06 Avalon is way to sensitive - feel like I'm being shot out of a canon. Had the TSB performed for this and related issues some years back. Seemed "better" for awhile then drifted back.

I blame it on early DBW - drive by wire - throttle control no longer cable attached, but controlled eectronically.

Perhaps it's improved since '06.

So today I called my local dealer told them about my pedal and they simply said If I'm not happy with the recall repair they will order me a new pedal! So it's on the way should be here in a few days and I will update after the install.

Now there is also a open recall on the brake master cylinder I'm kinda worried they will jack up my brakes next!

And whats this I have heard about a flash that will cut the throttle when the brake is applied? My car doesn't do that now i wonder if I should ask the dealer about that too.

So i got my new gas pedal installed and it does seem to have a little more resistance when you push it. And its been a few days and I haven't felt the jerking feeling when im taking off. So all in all its better and it didn't cost me anything I would recommend that if your gas pedal feels too sensitive give your local dealer a call.

Also I had the brake recall done and according to my paperwork it looks like they replaced the brake reservoir and possibly the master cylinder. The brakes do feel a little tighter now too.

It’s odd my 05 XLS seems to have a lot of resistance in the pedal comparable to my older 4runner or newer busted ass work truck (that’s resistance not response, which is very good)

Probably is the dealers fault!
