i only use s mode when i need the acceleration. so i do higher rpm shifts. but 2500 sounds about the right place to shift normally

I'm curious why you wouldn't just leave it in Auto and let the tranny decide what's best based on driving & rode conditions.

For some reason, my auto get less fuel mpg than S. I get about 14 mpg and I drive normally. No jack rabbit starts from the stoplight. In S, i get about 15. I tested auto from mid august to Septmber 20 and it had an average 14, and from Sept 21 to today im getting 15.1 for S. I only have an estimated 50 miles left but I seem to be getting more mpg. The driving conditions are the same. I drive to and from school which is ~12 miles a day. Leave the same time, get home roughly the same time (train sometimes stops when I am going home).

That is why I am driving in S mode. I just wanted to verify if my rpm shifts were acceptable. So anywhere from 2500-3000 rpm would be fine if i wanted to pass someone correct?

if you wanted to save gas, then shift earlier, lower rpms.and when you want to take over somebody just downshift and bam youll be set.

What do you mean downshift? Would that cause the engine to rev higher? Downshift from 3 to 2? I almost never go past 3rd gear.

so if you want to save gas you can upshift early go from 1-2-3-4-5 that way you have lower rpms.
but since you are in a higher gear (5) it will be harder to overtake/pass somebody but if you shift to 4 your rpms will become higher and the engine will rev faster at that point. you need to get the RPMs up to be in the power zone, so to speak.

i hope that makes sense. its easier to go higher in rpms when the rpms are already pretty high. if you drive a manual car or bike you will know. other than that i dont know lol.

simply you have more torque at the wheels when in a lower range and the rpms are high...

Oh so what I am ubderstanding is shift into a high gear(5) when I accerate from a stop sign or something? And I agree with the more power at wheel when at higher rpms. This doesnt apply for me cause I usually never go above 40 mph.

I thought you meant to downshift from 3-2 in like a 30 mph zone :p

well i am not saying that from a stop sign you should start of at higher gears. i am simply saying that you can change gears quicker/at lower rpms to save money.
like lets say you are cruising down a long street. and your in 3rd gear doing like 40mph. if instead you switch to 5th gear and do 40 you will get better mileage because of the lower rpms.

Why is your gas mileage so low? Even when I drive in the city I still never get below 24 MPG, also It doesn’t make sense to me why use sport/race if you never drive over 40 anyway?

you dont have to use "sport" mode only for racing. you can use it when you need control braking or towing. i wouldnt use sports in city driving. thats the whole reason i bought the auto and not the manual lol

I like S mode cause of the increased engine braking power when in lower gears. I like down shifting before coming to a peacefull stop using the brakes.

so you rather have you engine do extra work and get extra wear then use your brake pads ?

Hmm, never thought of it that way. Regardless, I won't be driving it that long since we are going to sell it maybe for a 370z or a Fr-s. Depends if the fr-s delivers.
