Video Out Iphone 2006 Avalon

All,

I have a 2006 Avalon w/o Nav. I am trying to figure out how I can get audio/video output from my iPhone 4 screen to the display unit. There are apps on the phone (such as GPS), that I want to launch and display on the OEM screen. I don't want to have to install a second in dash screen when I can use what is already in place.

I was thinking about using the iPhone cable dock for audio.video which can plug in a USB aux jack that would be mounted in the center console.

Any ideas on what I need in order to get this accomplished?

Thanks!

so you have a 06 w/o NAV, and you don't want to install a "second screen", are you thinking to output the video to the Blue/white screen? (the one shows vent direction, temp... with a little person in the middle)

I am not sure that screen can display anything other then the above info. It's just a low resolution screen after all.

As for audio, you can get pretty much get any iphone adaptor to plug into the back of the factory radio to get music that way, that part is easy and has been mentioned many times.

Yes, I have the blue screen now. I guess it sounds like I would have to replace it with the OEM Nav unit.

Apple offers a adapter that plugs into the iPhone to a composite cable (audio/video). I guess I would need a converter installed to accept those connections in the center dash and interface with the OEM Nav unit.

Are their any parts/vendors you can recommend or has anyone tried this before and provide me some feedback?

Thanks!

Try that. You still need to add your own audio separately, however this adds an additional video output to the nav. From there you can get an rca cord that plugs into your iPhone.

You can't do it with the blue screen. Its not a video lcd display, its more akin to a segmented lcd display like a calculator. You would need the actual navigation lcd as its capable of displaying video and color, etc.
