Thumbs up 2011 Avalon Limited Valet wiring help needed

Okay, sorry for long post ahead.

2011 Avalon limited. Has pull out valet key on smart fob, but does not have valet function (educate me if I'm wrong).

After talking with Toyota cs line (no help), a couple of dealers and finally resorting to justanswer online here is the info I received.

The 2010 model Avalon with smart key has a button in the glove box that you press that disengages the trunk from working with the smart key release pressure point on the trunk lid or the button on the dash. You push the button in the glove box, lock the glove box and remove the key portion from the fob and hand the fob to the valet. With this they can park the car, but not open the trunk.

In the 2011 model Avalon Limited Toyota did away with the button. We purchased the car, got a removeable key that comes out of the smart fob, but there is no button in the glove box only a blanking plate where it should go.

justanswer online got back after researching and gave the following:
"First of all the bad news is the 2011 did away with the valet mode switch in the glovebox. If you've looked in the glovebox you will see that where the switch was there is now a blind plug. On the 2010 all the switch did was ground the terminal TKUL at the body ECU. What technicians are doing for customers out here in the real world is simply purchasing the switch for the 2010. install it in the glovebox and tap into the harness to this black wire that goes back to the body ECU. Or you could go directly to the body ECU connector A pin number two and clip the wire, run it to a separate switch where ever you want to put it in, then to ground. Probably would cost 1.5 hours labor. After exhaustive research and speaking with some of the electrical guys on this problem no one really has a good answer as to why they did away with the switch but it is gone. Their solution was as I described above. Lots of guys are doing it for customers who need the trunk shut off."

So, here is the question area:

I looked behind the blanking plate and there is a common ground point there. There is a molex plug connected to it that has 4 wires connected into it (going off memory as not looking at it). The wires all look to be white with black stripe and I think there is a solid black one. In other words the harness has a male plug on it that plugs into a female plug section that is connected to a metal ground tab that is grounded right there. You can access by taking the screw out of the glovebox arm on the passenger side of the car and then pushing the glovebox sides in to release the stop pads (same thing you would do to get to the cabin filter).

What I'd like is to see if anyone can look at their 2010 switch and see how it is connected. I'm wondering if the switch has a plug coming off it that connects inline with this existing ground point plug or if it just has a wire that connects into this ground plug with another connecting somewhere else?

If someone could have a look and describe how and where it is connected and/or even take some pics that would be great!

My father would like to have the valet function work on the car. Having said that though, he begrudges having to pay $150 plus parts to have one hooked in especially if it is a simple connection back there.

If someone has the factory wiring diagram they could send me that would help also as I have no problem understanding and following them as well (have done so for ages).

Any help appreciated.

For those of interest. Locally the factory trunk switch can be ordered (so not seen it yet) and cost $65. Part number for the switch is 84840-24020

Don't fix it if it isn't broken! Muck with it until it is broken and THEN fix it.

Okay, received a very helpful email from C141B with the wiring diagram for this system. Thank you very much!

Confirmed, the trunk switch in the glove box is just a "to ground" switch.

From the body ECU there is a black wire coming from the TKUL connection 2a. That wire goes to the switch and then a white with black stripe wire goes from the switch to ground.

I'll need to get the car back again (family member currently has it out of state) to see if the black wire I saw back there with all the white with black stripe wires is in fact the wire from the TKUL terminal. Will disconnect power and then meter for continuity from the TKUL wire on the body ECU to the wire over behind the glove box. Will update with further details for those interested.

Also, have found a factory diagram page showing the factory switch. The switch appears to be just that. No wires, no plug/s connected or anything. Looks to be a squared body push button switch and that is it. A lot of money for what it appears to be, but then it will fit the hole the blanking plug came out of so not decided what I'll do there.

I've enquired further with C141B to see if he has the factory shop manual as well. If so I'm looking for a copy of the Body ECU replacement pages. Anything that shows the correct proceedure to get to it and diagrams of exact location etc. If anyone else has this info to hand they can get to me that would work also so please feel free to message me etc. 2010 or 2011 should work fine.

Once all set with the info then I'll complete the conversion, report back on the proceedure I used with a step by step so anyone else who wishes to have a working valet on their 2011 can do the conversion.

Anyway, please see what you can provide for factory service manual page copies of the panel removal needed and body ecu info. Thanks!
