Maintenance Required Light

Bought a 2006 avalon xls that has 49k miles on it. Yesterday the light came on. Any idea what this means. I had to pay toyota $90 to diagnose check engine light a couple of weeks ago. Fortunately it was just a bad gas cap seal. Any information would be helpful

It just means that your oil change is due. Whether a dealer or private mechanic does the maintenance, they'll reset the light at the time of servicing. Of course, people who do their own work reset it themselves.

Here is how to reset it:

1. With engine running make sure that the odometer mileage reading is showing, not Trip A or B.
2. Turn engine off.
3. Turn ignition switch to ON position while holding down the trip meter reset knob and continue to hold the knob down for at least 5 seconds until the odometer shows all zeros. Reminder light should go off.
4. If the light continues flashing, repeat procedure.
