read all the thread on this 3rd gen avalon you will learn a lot about your avalon.
as for DIY, don't know how old/many miles on your avalon. Hard to tell what need to be done. I barely do anything on ours other then oil change, air filter. That's pretty much all you need. The noise during acceleration.... not sure since it can be anything without knowing more. "slight wining noise" didn't give us too much info

Spark Plug replacement is one of the major steps in what some call a tune-up.

It's not rocket science - but if this is your first rodeo - you might want to let someone else handle the plug change. The 2GR-FE motor is not the easiest plug change - especially for the uninitiated.

Two other important maint. tasks are:

- oil and filter change

- air filter change

The oil filter on a 2GR-FE is different - but doable

Air filter change not bad either

A member here provided an excellent tutorial on 2GR-FE oil filter change - that URL seems to be gone.

Plenty of others things: tire rotation; proper inflation - power steering/brake fluid replacement - belts - hoses - coolant/etc.

Run away from any garage that tries to sell you a timing belt - 2GR-FE motors have a timing chain.

Haynes makes fairly good do-it-yourselfer maint/repair manuals. They do not make one for a 2GR-FE Avalon(unless it's surfaced in the last month) - but they make one for late model Camry's that feature the 2GR-FE motor.

If your car has less than 100k miles on it - don't worry about a spark plug change. They're not due yet.

Other than that, just do regular oil changes and filter swaps and you should be good to go - tune-up-wise.

I honestly don't think changing spark plug is necessary for car that's build after 2000. I remember changing the spark plug on my 97 Camry, the plugs cost more then regular and the old one I pulled still look "pretty" new even at 100K miles
