Found new way to open trunk

I did not like that the only way to open the trunk was with the push button on the dash or the key fob both with use the electric solenoid on the latch or with the manuaql release inside the trunk if you get locked in the trunk. This may be common knowledge but I traced a cable from the latch to the small opening in the rear seat. Just above the opening in the seat is a lever to release the trunk latch. As I said this may be common knowledge but I did not see this in the owners manual. If the battery is dead there is at least a way to open the trunk.

What is the model and year of your car?
I'm wondering if this is something new.

It is a base model 2011 Avalon. I do not know how to post pictures. It is directly above the back seat opening with the seat part folded down and the other cover open. Reach into the trunk from the back seat on top side of the opening about 6-8 inches and you will feel the release mechanism.

My '05 has this trunk release, so perhaps it is standard for all model years from 2005-up. I noticed it shortly after purchasing the car, but never found any mention in the Owners' manual.

Take the picture.
Transfer it to your computer.(Cable, Email, ETC)
go to imgur.com

Pretty straight forward from there.

Sequence of photos moving in from the rear of the trunk can be found at

The TN software will not allow me to paste it here.

It is not in my 2011 manual. Maybe they do not want kids being able to open the trunk lid while going the road.

Thanks for pointing that out. I would never think to look there. Must be a plan B release. Just tested mine out and it works perfectly.

It sure is in my 2011. Makes you wonder how secure the trunk really is with the valet option. MAYBE, that's why they did away with the valet switch in the 2011's
