New Avalon owner - just bought an '05 Limited - couple questions

Well, at the ripe old age of 35, I decided I needed a big, cushy, comfortable car. Just to maintain some shred of dignity, I must also inform you that I have a 91 MR2 that is not stock, it recently put down 312 hp, with a lot of room to grow if I upgrade the fuel pump.

Anywho, I found an 05 limited with 67k on the odo and bought it today. I don't take delivery until later in the week, and the dealer told me I could buy the extended warranty up to the time when the car is delivered.

He quoted me $3,000 for the 5 year / 60,000 mile plan, which would take me close to 130k on the odo. The price seems a little high, but I'm wondering if you guys think it might be worth it.

Normally I would just reject it without much thought, but the limited has so many "premium" (to me at least) features, that I'm considering it rather than dealing with costly replacements down the road.

FWIW, the dealer warranty the car comes with is 2 months, 2,500 miles.

Or you can buy my '07 Touring.

I tried to get a 09 Limited , but just recently brought a 06 XLS with 55,000 .
Your warranty price sounds about right I would get it .
I paid 2,200 for mine and it is only for 3 years ,I also have GAP insurance too .

Im am 38 and really like this car it is my first Toyota,I hope you enjoy your car.
I have change my interior and license plate lights to LED so far.
Plus I joined the Toyota owners site and saw I had 3 recalls and went to the dealer and had them taking care of .

Pass on the extended warranty. My '07 has 154,000k miles on it now (and I haven't babied it!) and it still runs as good as the day I bought it. The only thing that's broken on it was the hose slipped off the windshield washer reservoir dumping the contents onto the garage floor.

Just maintain it according to Toyota's schedule and you'll be okay.

Don't do the warranty either. If there are any major problems they will show up in less than 2500 miles. Be sure, sure, sure that the variable timing oil line has been taken care of on the left(?) bank. I bought and had installed an all metal line on my 07. I think the 05's had some other problem with the steering joints.(??)

Thanks all. I'll sign up for the toyota site and make sure all the recalls have been taken care of.

Phew, looks like we're good on that, right?

There were some other things replaced / repaired under warranty, but I didn't want to clog things up by posting all of them.

How many miles are on the car since the VVTI line was replaced? There are horror stories on this forum of people continuing driving their cars with huge oil leaks and destroying the engines. You wouldn't want one of those.

Nope, I wouldn't. It has 67k on it now, so 39k since the hose replacement.

I park in the garage, so if it's leaking, I'll know it pretty quickly. I take delivery Tuesday.
