Exclamation '05 Seat Belt Chime Issue

I just got the new Avalon. Pretty nice but rear visability isn't great and front head room has been reduced to make it look sporty. My problem is with the obnoxious seat belt warning chime which seems to go on forever. Anybody got ideas on how to disable it? I use my belt all the time. Don't need a reminder.

I got the SLS. The blond wood paneling is really modern looking. Wish I could have afforded the Limited however. The smart key system is really neat.

Are you sure the chime doesn't go off after you buckle up?

Lightbulb solution

screw the seat belt, just tie a rope. j/k i think you're suppose to pull 1/2' extra and let it go back and the belt will lock. 1/2' = 6in

i'm a noob

The chime goes off if you buckle up but when I am driving around my pasture or to the mailbox I don't want to wear the belt. I want to disable the chime completely.

It's a new safety feature for all new Toyotas my friend. There's no way to turn it off unless you cut the wires. Other than that, don't drive your car over 5 mph with the belts off. Otherwise, it'll start chiming. My 05 Camry does it as well.

I agree this is the most annoying seat belt reminder I've ever encountered. A few beeps is plenty but to beep continuously for about a minute and increase is ridiculous. They are going to get a lot of complaints (including from me) about this one. I have a long drive up a parking garage and I am used to taking my belt off. Now I have to leave it on the whole way. Same when I drive around the corner (literally) from the mailbox home. Someone forgot to put on the thinking cap for this one.

Hmmm...a safety reminder is a bad thing?

Maybe walking to the mailbox would be better..it would burn some calories....

Sorry guys, I fall on the side of being safe whenever driving a car, whether to a mailbox or not...

As a former state trooper, I have seen people im major collisions just driving to the mailbox...

Love my 2005 Avalon, everything about it!!!!!

I just spoke to a dealer in Scottsdale Arizona and he said the seat chime could be disabled without snipping wires. Apparently, there is a way to press a series of buttons to disable it. This was built in for handicap purposes. If/when I get the procedure from the dealer , I will post it.

I will probably start another post, but another thing I want to disable is the removal of the RDS text from the display when the car is moving. The dealer said this maybe a little harder to do.

I found beep disable procedure for the Prius at the following website:

http://priuschat.com/forums/kb.php?mode=article&k=7

I have not tried it yet, maybe this is it or some derivation.

I have both an '05 Avalon Limited and an '05 Solara Convertable V6 SLE and the Avalon beeps link a !@#$ while the Solara just politely flashes the seatbelt light.

This seat belt is now bugging me too. My mailbox is about 6 houses from my house and the wife usually jumps out to grab the mail and hop back in while we roll to our house. The darn seat belt alarm gets louder and faster if not corrected. A real PITA.

Does anyone have a shop manual yet that might tell of a fuse to pull? I'd love to put a switch on the alarm to bypass it. I really don't need a reminder to put on my seatbelt.
