I'll give that a try. Hadn't taken it that far. My wife wants the security of those other doors staying locked until she purposely unlocks them.
Thanks for the reply.

The only aspect that seems to be different from your car and mine (and others) is the remote start. Because it requires using the remote fob I can't help but think that something in the computer must be messed up by the remote start feature. Perhaps your dealer can flash the computer back to factory specs without remote start and see if the issue clears. Then reload the remote start function to see if it repeats the problem. IF the problem returns then the Toyota computer wizards can write a program fix.

05,

Tried your method (closing drivers door)--no difference. I set and reset the keyless but in both modes any other door would unlock time it was touched.
I've had some replies from Toyota.
After a few false starts, they say that the other doors are suppose to unlock once the drivers door is opened. If so, I still don't see any differnce whatsoever in the two modes other than the wording as to how they work, for they work the same.
I'll get back to the dealer one of these days (it's 70 miles distance) and try to get it 'understood' on my part.
Thanks for the reply.

I tried mine again tonight. Locked all doors, walked away from the car and returned, opened driver's door with smart key in pocket and put smart key on seat and shut door, no other doors would unlock, tried several times and no other doors would unlock. Mine works IMHO correctly. I don't have remote start. I look forward to hearing what the dealer says is wrong with yours. The instructions in the owner's manual agree with Toyota's comment but they can't be correct because mine doesn't do it and as you state what good is it if the doors don't stay locked.

AH HA! You said the magic word. Did as you said. Opened the drivers door, placed key inside the car and the rear door would not unlock. Shut drivers door, the rear door would not unlock. Opened drivers door to take out the key and the rear door would unlock.
Now, If my wife can jump in the car fast enough or throw her key inside, she has it made. I think.
She just left to go to the Bea. Shop, walked back in, looked at me rather sheepishly, then cursed, walked back out. I followed her to see what was wrong. She admitted she got in the car and could not find a place to 'put the key in'. Didn't dawn on her until she got back in the house to ask me.
I may have more problems than just the doo dads on the new car!
Thanks for the help.

That's truly weird. because it's meant to open all the doors for the smart key. Unless of course, there's a button on each handles, then there's something wrong. Read your manual. It truly answers all of your questions.

Glad it worked for you. The key on the seat, of course, simulated the driver sitting there with the key in a pocket. There are many things to learn about this car. I look forward to visiting this forum and learning from owners who have had their Avalons longer than I have. I have had no problems with the transmission so far. bob

Hi John, did you resolve this issue to your satisfaction yet? I reprogrammed mine to unlock all doors at once. I read over your posts again and it is not clear in the posts if your are trying to open the doors with the remote fob or by using the door handles.

What I observed today is that when you reprogram the system using the fob "lock and trunk buttons" that it only changes the open feature when using the door handle method. If you use the remote fob it still requires you to push the fob once to open the drivers door and twice to open all other doors. BTW, I reporgrammed mine by sitting in the car so I could hear the beeps when it was done.

I remember buying my first car with electric windows and listening to my dad say why do ya want all those damn electric toys anyway, they'll just break down. I wonder what he would say about the new Avalone Limited.

That would be priceless. I can see it now, " Where' s your keys? How are you gonna open the door."

"Oh dad, just open the door, it'll unlock by itself for you."

"What's this button for?"

"It's to turn on the engine."

"Boy, in my old days, we weren't lazy and did hard work. We did the old fashion way of pressing the gas and turning the key to start our engines."
