05 Avalon - Procedure to Disable Seat Belt Chime

Since some of you may not check the Seat Belt Chime thread everytime, I thought I would start another thread to make sure everyone sees it.

******FOUND THE SOLUTION TO DISABLE THE SEAT BELT CHIME*****************
************************************************** *******************
Well, no wiring mod is required. Here is the procedure:

1. Set the LCD on the combination meter to the ODO trip.
2. Press and hold the TRIP meter reset knob for ten seconds or more within six seconds of turning the ignition switch to the ON position. Fastening the driver's seat belt while holding the knob cancels the buzzer reminder. (You may have to hit the reset meter knob to cycle through b-ON to b-OFF)
3. When this occurs, the LCD displays "b-OFF". The buzzer reminder can be switched between ON and OFF each time the TRIP meter knob is pressed. The LCD displays "b-ON" or "b-OFF" according to the buzzer reminder ON/OFF status. The display changes to the ODO or trip meter if the knob is not pressed in 10 seconds.
4) Performing steps 1) and 2) again when the buzzer reminder is off exits cancel mode.

I was able to disable the seat buzzer and took a drive. IT WORKs! I am so relieved.

Worked the first time I tried it!

Thanks!

Now only if someone could enable the Radio text when driving, and get rid of the I Agree prompt everytime you start the car.

Unfortunately, it looks like it's Prius only. The menus look similar but different enough that the software is not identical, so the actual unit wiring may be different.

Plus the display on the Prius does a lot more, again leading me to wonder if the wiring is at all compatible with the Avalon NAV unit.

Has anyone contacted Coastaletech to see if will work on an Avalon? I just wrote them email, but more requests make it more likely they will support us.

I spoke with the manager of the Toyota service department at our local dealership today, and he said there were no updates for the NAV at this time. I was asking about business listings in particular since the listings data for Southern California is at least a year old. He said that if it works out like the Prius, then in a year or two they may send me a letter offering a free upgrade. He said the disc is inside the unit, and the unit has to be removed to access it, and update the data (which seems insane!). He also pointed out an nice feature that no one had shown me:

On the center armrest, squeeze the release you would use to open up the large compartment under the armrest.... but instead of lifting, slide the lid forward. You will find it slides all the way forward! I was upset the arm rest was fixed, and couldn't be raised. This more than makes up for that, great feature!

I started to look into the Wiring Diagrams for the Audio and Multi-display system. From what I can tell, there is a AVC-LAN bus that runs between the Gateway ECU to the Radio Reciever Assembly and to the Multi-display assembly. I assume the the Radio sends the RDS data to the Multi-display through the AVC-LAN, then the Multi-display takes the speed data from the AVC-LAN from the Gateway ECU to determine when to disable the RDS data. I don't think you can disable the speed data without disabling all the data, and if you could you may affect the calculation for MPG, trip info and NAV data inside the multi-display. If anyone is an expert with these systems and nows how to disable the system let us know. I really don't want to mess with a bus system. I will keep looking at the diagrams. Again, if you want to look at the diagrams you can do it at

I also sent them an email asking for the development of a NAV kit for the Avalon. I pointed the way to this website incase he needs a test vehicle to try a new product (maybe someone is close to them).

How many of you would like to have a simple device hooked up to your NAV system so you did not have to push the "I Agree" button each time and it would allow you to access data without the car having to be at a dead stop.

05Limited - I would love to have the harness that does all that. Again, just looking at the Schematics I don't think you can do it with a harness. I think you would have to modify the circuitry in the Radio or the Multidisplay to pick and choose the data and set the programming.

I'll have to remember to check that next time I wash the car. I did notice today that I can not operate the passenger window from the driver's master window switch. Anyone else find this out after turning off the seatbelt chime or is it just a clitch for me.

05 Limited/Peepoke - I had the Toyota XM radio installed in my car yesturday and love it. The interesting thing is that the Text for the XM does not get disabled when you start driving like when you are using FM. Since I will spend about 99% of my time listening to XM, the rds issue doesn't bother me that much. This also tells me the the RDS disable function seems to be controlled by the radio head and not the multi-display. The nav functions are still disabled when you drive

I also have checked my drivers window since disabling the seat belt. Both work fine. You may want to check to make sure your window lock button is not engaged on the drivers panel. I have been unable to use my wipers yet in PHX since we have not rain in the last 3 months. I will let you know if I have any problems with that. I looked at the WDMS again and the Seat Belt has nothing to do with the windows or the wipers.

I went to the options list on the Toyota scanner and reconfigured some things, turned the drls off, changed the lighting delay, reset the wiper delay and it seams to be working now. The passenger door window sounds like the window lock is on like preskev said.

When you have the XM radio installed does it require a standalone unit to control or select stations or does it go through the NAV radio system.

As for my passenger window I guess it is another trip to the dealer. All other windows work fine except the front passenger. At least it works at the door itself but with the temps in the 100's everyday I won't miss the function for several months.

It works right thru the radio, on my car you use the am/sat button to toggle between xm and radio.
