we didnt do any quarter mile racing but 0 to about 30 was tied dead on. Now those things only have 2.7 V6s with 200hp @ 5800 RPM & 190 torque @ 4850 RPM and weigh 3,474 lbs.
So let me see: I have more horsepower (10 more) and more torque @ a lower RPM (30ft-lbs more) and a larger engine on a vehicle that weighs the same.
So what's up toyota??
please please please someone tell me there's some sort of cold air intake out there I can buy and install? I mean this is pretty shitty, these are suppose to be top-of-the-line toyota luxury cars, not suppose to be embarassed by average run-of-the-mill GM cars.
Air filter on this thing is fine, just changed oil with full synthetic.
You also have to take into consideration that the gear ratios are NOT meant for racing.

you bought a luxury car, not a sports car. if you wanted speed you should have gotten an mr2 or a supra or a celica.
sure you can make an avalon go fast, but thaqt was not its original intent.
comfort and speed do not go hand in hand, the avalon sides with comfort and does a damn fine job of it in my opinion
Edit: chrysler is not affiliated with GM. and i bet that your car is more luxurious than the sebring.
it's still luxury = reasonably fast. Please show me some other top-of-the-line luxury cars with 9+ second 0-60 times and I'll show you a dozen with at least <8 second 0-60, most <7.
I didnt say I want 13 second quarters, I just want to be competitive. It's not even competitive.
"Running at the drags is not the forte of the Avalon, although is runs pretty strong for a good size sedan. 0-60 times averaged 8.49 seconds with one run at 7.89 (I must have been going downhill) but the majority were consistently at 8 and a half seconds. Understand that a 0-60 time of 8.5 seconds just 15 years ago would be considered world class, even a 380 V-8 Mercedes sedan wouldn't come close to that time. The original Lexus LS 400 was an 8 second car. Passing performance is very quick with times for 50-70 averaging only 4.81 seconds and accelerating up a steep grade only lengthening the time to 7.22 seconds. These are fast times and the Avalon need make no excuses for its performance numbers. Midrange, partial throttle response is excellent. It never feels strained. "
"At the dragstrip the, the Avalon won't disappoint. 0-60 times averaged 8.75 seconds, but it feels quicker because the midrange is so strong. 50-70 passing times ran 4.77 seconds and up a grade will only slow the big-on-the-inside Avalon to 7.33 seconds. The Avalon gives the impression of strong power, even though its times are good but not earth shaking. It will satisfy all but the most power hungry. In comparison to the previous generation, the times are nearly identical, which could be explained by the new generation's slight increase in curb weight, up by about 100 pounds. "
yeah those are just some of the numbers that I got from a quick google. I have a 96 avalon and shit I think its pretty darn good for a heavy ass. I do guessimates and I think mines is around 8~. If you have the ETC button, try it. It makes the engine hit the 4400 torque make for the bump to reach the peak HP gains. I think your just not driving your avalon right.
Instead of hitting the pedal off a stand still try, a rolling start, I think the acceleration is faster that way. In any case, I hope to get mines S/Ced pretty soon, so I wouldn't have to worry about that.
i have never really thot of this before but when my friend and i were sorta just racing from a stoplight for fun her avalon (01) was just right up there with my 98 camry. I thot since my car was lighter i should be able to beat her. I understand that i should even have more HP?
