If he had the timing belt off a tooth he might not make decent cylinder pressure until he was turning 5000-6000 r's, getting the cam timing on a dohc can be tricky. With the cam timing advanced (one tooth too much) it would act as if the bottom dropped out of it, with the timing retarded(one tooth too little) it might feel winded at 5000-6000 r's. Any how it can be tricky to get both cams in strait up if you don't have a lock tool.
