Question simple performance boost

Will changing the spark plugs from stock old spark plugs to new higher performance sparkplugs help?? How about getting rid of the air box and putting an air intake filer on ?? i see them all over ebay??

Is there any inexpensive way to boost performance?? Something that don’t take a master mechanic to figure out..

Get a cold intake with a kn filter attached, should be able to install yourself, if you have worked on your car before. That will give you probally around 12hp.

Nope not really, power costs money... and no plugs dont give you power, only duty for the plug is to set the air-fuel mixture on fire, doesnt take much to do that, by the time the fuel ignites, the spark is long gone already.

Does this air filter you speak of come with a compressor?

Regardless of which Corolla he has, he's not getting 12hp from a CAI.

Now that we have dismissed cold air intakes, what about crankscrapers? Or doesn't that count as simple? I'm more curious about the effect on MPG in highway driving than more HP.

The people at Ishihara-Johnson pointed out to me that the "windage tray" for the 4age engine only costs about $12 and it fits into the 4afe. But it isn't shaped exactly like a crank scraper so it may have a different function. You can add both the windage tray and a crankscraper to the 4afe, but you won't have any room for gaskets and you will need longer bolts for the oil pan.

If you create less restriction in your intake, like your exhaust you will actually gain HP, along with more power, it just works more effeiently, and something like 2 HP is more reasonable, unless your car is boosted.

Also....dont get any kind of high performance spark plugs that run hotter then your stock ones....it would give more performance cause its hotter to sure burn all the fuel in the chamber. but running hotter puts a hole in your piston.

and a question on air filters? People say that getting K&n one or a cold air intake lets in more dirt? even though k&n claims to help trap more dirt....Im scared to buy one and does anyone know if this is true

Running a hotter plug won't burn a hole in your piston, running it lean on a hotter plug with advanced timming, and low octane fuel will burn a hole in the piston.

The oil on the Gauge Filters (K&N) helps trap the dirt, the paper filters are basically, like putting a paper bag over your intake, it can't breath and decreases the effiecency, a little bit of dirt isn't going to hurt a motor.

Also, hotter plugs within reason 1-2 heat ranges will also increase fuel milage.

You can check out thermotec header and exhaust wrap. search google and you should be able to find an online store. Buy enough wrap to wrap your header and the pipings all the way to your muffler. This should gain you another 5-7 hp. Cheap and simple but you might have to get somebody to install it for you.

One problem with header wraps, the cause rust. the wrap gets wet, the heat causes it to evaporate quickly, and that acellerates the rust process when you park it wet.
