AE92 help with 4agze cv boot

im trying to replace my outer right hand side cv boot on my AE92 gtz but cant figure out how to do it. ive replaced a cv boot on my AE92 corolla gl but that was simple compared to whats in front of me now. seems that theres an inner and outer cv joint on the RHS drive shaft (both are the ones with the ball bearings in them) and none of them seem to want to come off.

am i suppose to take the steering hub off the outer cv joint and the take the drive shaft off the cv joint to replace the boot. am i even ment to take the cv joint apart?

can anyone help me diagrams would be nice

the fwd gtz's use whats called an 'equal length shaft'. I would do the job with the axle out of the car.... you need to unbolt the shaft from the motor before it will come out.

The service manual gives directions for removing the entire axle. I think what you want to do is only to get access to the outer CV joint, so I guess these steps would be needed: Jack that side of the car up and rest it on a jackstand. Remove the tire. `Remove the cotter pin, washer and nut from the end of the axel. Remove the cotter pin and nut for the tie rod end. Pop out the tie rod end. Remove the lower (the only) ball joint from the frame (1 bolt and 2 nuts) Tap the end of the axel till it comes out of the hub. Then you have access to replace the boot. You may also have to remove the engine "undercovers" (splash guards) to have enough room to flex the CV joint enough so the axle comes out. I can't visualize that situation very well.
I don't know about NZ, but I would say that for driving conditions in the US, by the time you need to replace the boot, the whole CV joint needs replacing and this is usually done by replacing the half axel as a unit (replacing both inner and outer CV joints). When you remove the axel, flex the CV joint and see how it feels. If it moves effortlessly and smoothly, it is worn out. The correct feel for the joint is that it is rather stiff and with the force you can exert with your hands, it will have a jerky uneven motion. (The same goes for the ball joint. It shoud not be frozen but it should not be easy to move with your hands.)

hmmmmm i couldnt get the axle bolt off but got the tir rod and the strut off and just holding where the strut was bolted up to i rammed the drive shaft off the outer cv joint. but now im afraid that the may be bits of dirt and small stones in the cv joint so how do i clean all that out with the cv joint still connected to the steering hub?

also turning the cv joint around it still quite stiff so should be alright.
