big/small rims on corollas

hey guys, i know that having bigger rims will have more grip, but will it actually make your car faster? will these corollas still handle good with say....16 or 17s??? or is it better off the stay with 14s or 15s? and will the rim weight make a difference?? i have a choice to pick 14 inch rims that weigh 10 lbs or 15 inch rims that weigh 15 lbs., which one should i go for? thanks in advance

yes, but 5 lbs per wheel and that adds up to 20 lbs for unsprung weight, are you sure 20 lbs of unsprung weight will make no difference?

14s and 15's give you better performance, 16s are somewhat ok on performance but are more for looks, 17s are basically for looks as they take longer to rotate specially with a 4cyl motor as you're probably wasting power in trying to make the tire rotate.

Your best bet is to go with 15s or 16s max.

i dunno what you drive but your best bet would be not to go over anything bigger than 1 size over stock

Cornering and grip would be effected if there was a change in the width of the tire, not so much diameter of the rim. however, i would assume that to some degree by lowering the centre of gravity by using a smaller diameter rim you could have effects on handling. Also the overall size of the diameter of your rim and tire will effect top speed and acceleration. The larger the diameter the higher the top speed but at a decrease in acceleration.

mine came with 14's, wider will be more foward/backward grip, narrower will have better sideways grip, and for some reason, better gas mileage?

how would narrow tire give you more sideways grip? it decreases the contact surface area between the tire and the road?

i will agree with the narrower tires giving u better gas mileage as for the rest of it in no way will narrower tires be better in cornering (manby in mud and snow but not on the road)

the more tire u have on the road the better grip you will have (an example) u dont see top fuel dragsters using bike tires do u ? tire pressure also plays a big role in traction

if you dont know for sure what you are talking about dont post at all, use the search button and figure it out yourself before throwing out these comments

I'd get the 14 outta those two choices. Atleast your tire will be lower profile so the tire will fold less during hard cornering.

Nah.. I'd go 15s or even 16s. 205/50-15 would go nice on that year but I think most people go with 195/50-15 or 195/55-15s.
