Question Seafoamed

I just ran the seafoam through my gas tank and ran it down till the light came on and then filled up. Now tell me if im making any sense at this late hour.

1. Should I keep doing the run down low cycle to make sure I flush it out of my tank completely?

2. Should I be getting better mileage than when with the seafoam since the seafoam was not gas, and the combustion might not have been as good?

3. The 78 freeway in north san deigo county sucks in the morning. its a parking lot most of the way. If im driving about 2 miles to the freeway then about 8 on the freeway and off with lots of traffic one way, and a quick trip at 70+MPH back, does ~25 MPG sound reasonable considering traffic and my speeding on the freeway? I try not to floor it too much.

any other seafoam related things I need to know about??

thanks guys

-Daniel

Well, since a previous seafoam user hasn't responded, I'll give my .02.

I (personally) think you should probably be getting a little better than 25mpg considering you're doing some significant freeway driving.

However..............assuming you have the 1.8L auto, EPA says 28/36 for the 4 speed auto & 28/33 for the 3 speed auto.

Now...not knowing what most Gen8 (pre VVT) Corolla owners are getting, I'd say you're probably a couple mpg low. Could be lost anywhere. Our wonderful So Cal gas?? An 02 sensor?? Some other sensor somewhere in the motor??? Who knows.

As for runnin the seafoam out, I wouldn't worry about it. I'd just continue to fill up as usual. Eventually it'll be gone. Some folks claim these are miracle workers............I think not.

Example: When they're burning smoke all out the back after running 'em thru the intake?? It's simply the seafoam burning off. Nothing magic. Same for gas treatments and seafoam in the crankcase. Perhaps cleaning a little, but nothing miraculous.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I'd heard great things about Techron, so while I was changing my whole whizz-bang tuneup on my '95 Prizm I threw a bottle in the tank. Welp, between my whole tuneup *and* the Techron I'm still getting within 1mpg of what I got before. That's a lot of work for 1mpg!!!

My 1.6L 3sp is getting about 24-25 around town right now. EPA says 26/30. I ain't worried about it 'cuz I don't know if ANYBODY gets what EPA says.

Best example yet...............

If you'll notice...........on this board, folks buying Gen 9 Corollas are of 2 thoughts........first group of folks are gettin' 35mpg all day & night & are either lying or driving freeway 99% w/ a good tailwind. Other folks are wondering why they're only getting 28mpg & dealer says nothing's wrong. I think those are the honest folks who are (yet again) being duped by EPA estimates & realizing that real world MPG results are around 10% less than what they assumed.

And don't worry.......I recently visited a "hybrid" forum that was all hybrids, all the time & sure enough.........one of their forums was dedicated SPECIFICALLY to "What's your MPG?" And what did ya' find in there??? TONS of folks, not getting near the estimated MPG on their brand new, whiz-bang 21st century hybrid.

Oh well, FTW!!!!

Disagreement, here. I have a 2003 CE 5-spd. I average a SOLID 35mpg in city driving (as high as 38mpg if I drive very nicely). Highway mileage is a solid 40mpg, with a record high of 43mpg. Car has 70,000 miles on it and I've never seen anything lower than 32 (the dead cold of winter with crappy oxygenated fuels).

Great for you................however, you're definitely the exception.

Notice you're claiming that you're getting even higher than the EPA estimates ------------> http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm

People have been ridiculed on late night cable TV for less................

Perhaps the autos aren't as frugal as the 5-spds, because I can tell you that the MAJORITY of 5-spd 03+ owners I have encountered see roughly the same mileage figures as I do. If the car isn't getting 40mpg (or thereabouts) on the highway, then there is something wrong with the car. Anything down in the 20's...again, there is something wrong with the car that needs fixing because these cars get superb fuel mileage, typically.

Well..............yes and no.

Yes because you don't get as good gas mileage as a stick. Yes, 'cuz you aren't going to have as much control over shifting and other little preferences.

No, because you will probably NEVER have to worry about your torque converter or trans. Unlike a stick which could give some serious problems down the road & the first clutch change will more than make you wish you'd had an auto already.

Top that off...............if you have a throwout bearing problem, or take your clutch disc down to the point of eating into the flywheel............be prepared. Things will get expensive really quick!!!

Also.............stick (while offering much control) is definitel less "hands free" than auto and the older I get, the more I like being able to just drive.

Plus, the way newer cars are shifting, they're getting more & more responsive & silky!!!

Test drive an '06 Lexus IS250/350 once they hit your lot. Those 6 speed trannies will make you wish EVERY car had one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
