is this a bad tranny or cv axles??

are these symptoms of a bad automatic tranny or bad cv axles?

1. when i press the gas my car makes it clacking noise and then gets louder when i accelerate. the car goes in every gear and does not stick.

2. when i turn the wheel and press the gas the clacking noise gets worse is hardly accelerates.

3. it just happened today out of the blue, no warning signs or anything

sounds like CV's check the boots also see if theres any play in them; just turn the wheel to lock then check the boot then with the engine off in neutral grab the shaft and see if it will rotate in either direction

Actually it would be the CV joints.. not the boots, if the boot ripped the CV joint would take a little while to actually start making noise. It would have to run completely out of grease before it did that, and if you let it go that far then you might as well replace it because its eventually going to break.

sounds like CV axles. An easy way to tell is to drive the car on some ramps, then crawl under it and shake the CV's around. If they are as bad as it sounds then you should have a ton of play in one or two of them. Also look for a missing boot. If a boot has been gone for a long time then it needs replacing. MY wife ran her car for 25k missing a boot. She told me it was clanking so i crawled under it and the CV was about to fall out. Hope that helps you out.
