Talking any suggestions on exhausts?

i have a 90 prizm gsi. it has the small prot 4age and i was wondering if anyone had any advice as too what size piping i should go with when i do my cat back straight pipe. ive done the intake and i was hoping to get some help with this cause i would like to keep it a sleeper/ some what quiet. so it is harder for hondas to tell what im running.haha. ive heard that these cars sound nice with 2 1/4 pipe but any advice will be welcomed. thanx in advance.

2 1/4, with 2 mufflers (not a resonator and a muffler, TWO mufflers)

run a single rear muffler = death to midrange + too loud.

4age's are nortorious when it comes to getting a good exhasut for them. a GOOD 4-2-1 header will still loose some power below 4k (only becuase the standard system is good for low end) but make significant gains above.

if you want a sleeper, get some more liveley cam, keep the exhaust stock, or valve the exhaust.

eihter way its a 4age, they go hard

sweet. thanx for the info cause i need a new exhaust system cause the rear muffler gave out due to high reving, so now im running a car with a muffler that has a huge cut in it. haha and it rattles at takeoff and between 2800 and 3200 rpm. my guess is that its the origional exhaust system. but once again thanx for the help.

The exhaust wouldn't give out because of high revving, it was probably just old and rusted thru.

it just so happens that's when the most pressure is running thru the exhaust, at low RPMs there's not enough pressure going thru to break it.

I'd say upgrade your piping from the Cat all the way to the back and add a Straight-thru muffler if you don't mind it loud OR a good sports muffler if you can find one. I've been looking for one for my car and I can't find any decent sports mufflers, only straight thru designs.

Post some pics of your car man, not too many have seen the famous Prizm GSi.

yea that does make sense. and for right now i might just take it to the local muffler shop and have them put some pipe to remove the muffler and then ill add a nice tip. atleast untill i can save up some money for the full job (cat-back).

and ive been planning on putting pics of the gsi on here i just havent had any decent wheather around here or i have been busy.

if you can live with the noise of the straight pipe, leave it. thats better (performance wise) then any muffler.

well my sister had a prizm a while back but it had the 4afe. she had removed the muffler and put some pipe and a new tip and it sounded nice. but that was the 4afe not sure how loud the 4age will be. but i think that ill be able to with stand the noise since ill get better performance than any muffler.

No they can be quiet, and they dont sound that great when they're with open exhaust. 4Cyl engines sound generally like shit. I'd put some nice flowing chambered muffler in the rear and a nice flowing resonator up front, would be quiet and nice and not make unnecessary attention. Silent and deadly is the way to go.

On my MR2 I ran nothing but a "Bullet" muffler and a tip, all 2.5". Sounded DAMN beefy and it really felt much faster than stock!

Course, that's an MR2. I had like, 2 feet of exhaust pipe haha

On my SR5... sorry, Trueno wannabe, I am running a stock manifold then 2" exhaust with no cat to a Ractive muffler. Sounds really deep and not loud till around 5000rpm. That's impressive since I have a carberator
