Just curious what the fastest 3SGTE Swapped corolla is or anyones heard of? I know its a fairly popular swap so just trying to see how quick the cars are getting. Oh, and on the faster cars, what turbo/manifold set-up is most widely used? Thanks,
Jeff
Actually I think that's AWD.. not sure, not too many 3SGTE Corollas running around of any Generations. I know there was an AE92 sedan with a 3SGTE swap in Toronto that was very fast but I'm not sure if the man ever did any times with it as I think he wrote it off.
Well, if we're talking completely unrestricted then we can hypothesise on what the maximum achievable numbers would be for a 3S-GTE powered FWD Corolla based on other available data.
So the question is: Can you build a 3S-GTE powered FWD Corolla with those specs?
Well, if you start with an AE92 you can certainly get down to that weight with a strict race-only diet.
So how about the power? Is the 3S-GTE capable of making ~900hp?
The answer is definately yes.
Here are a few examples that I came up with in about 12 seconds:
(Im sure I could find more if I put in the effort)
So there you have it.
We could get ourselves an AE92, trim it down to ~2000lbs and drop in a 900bhp 3S-GTE.
Sorting the suspension is just a matter of time and money.
Bingo, a 9 second FWD 3S-GTE powered Corolla (in theory).
Now, whos got the thousands and thousands of dollars to build it?
And if you can sovle the wheelspin issue on an Integra, you can solve it on a Corolla.
Now, if you wanted a street sleeper, obviously you arent touching 9 seconds considering that the biggest rims you can get away with are like 15s, maybe 16s, and still have a stock look. You could still get the weight down pretty far for a street car, so that's not really an issue. You could also still probably make a good 500hp (Look at Hyde. He's making 500hp and could still be a street driven car.) or more out of a street-tuned 3S-GTE. Granted it wouldn't be smooth by any means running at least 20psi, but it would be drivable.
With some REALLY nice tires mounted on 16" rims, a full suspension (doesn't hurt the stock look as long you dont go crazy with the ride height), and a built drivetrain Im betting you could get an AE92 into the low 11s. It would take a lot of money, but hey, were talking pure theory here anyways =P
3S into a Corolla?
It's been done many times.
It's common enough that you can do it in video games =P
Into an AE92? I dont know for certain, but I would bet it's been done.
It is certainly possible.
Seems like the Silvertop/Blacktop 4age are most common swaps. Must be the higher price of the 3gste that keeps people away, or the desire for 5 valves lol
Well, yeah.
A 4A swap is going to be not only substantially easier (which means you can do it yourself and save a bunch on labor) but also substantially cheaper.
a 20v motor, in my opinion, is a cooler swap to do.
But if power is what you're after, you just cant beat the 3S.
Also, just to add to the discussion on just how strong a 3S can be, consider the fact that the JGTC Supras swapped out their powerful and highly covetted 2JZ motors for 3S-GTEs.
So 3Ss aren't just about making power, they're about getting it where it needs to be reliably and efficiently.

HKS Drag Celica with a 3S-GTE ran 9.35ET 10 years ago compared to Rado's fastest ET of 9.4 in his Integra.
JGTC Supras chose the 3S-GTE because they were lighter in weight than the 2JZ and gave the car closer to a 50/50 weight distribution. Now almost all JGTC Supras are running 3UZ engines now.
Here's a FWD AE82 Corolla (Corolla F/X) with a 3SGTE.
The engine came from a ST185 Celica.
