AE86 tranny problem

Need some help from the experts.

I have an Automatic transmission. I have no problem shifting to any gear, but when I try to accelerate the transmission is slow to transfer power to the wheels. The engine will rev freely while in gear while slowly gaining speed. I have checked the fluid and filter; they are in good shape. My best guess with limitied knowledge of ATs is a bad, or leaking torque converter. This is a pain in my @ss and causing me to waste gas, so any help I can get would be great.

Hi Chris,

The number one problem with automatics is heat.

You might need to get the tranny (torque converter) checked out, but eventually, you will need a tranny cooler.

What you can do before taking it to the shop is drain and refill the tranny fluid.
Best time to do this is when the car is cold, because the level before you start the car is the reading that you need to pay attention to.

Try that out first and see how it goes.

Good luck!

It does the same thing in every gear. Gonna change the fluid today, and post the results.

Changed the fluid/filter and the reponse is much, much better. The slip is still there to some extent, but hardly noticable at high speeds. I still thing my t-converter is f$#ked. Ill just ignore it until I get a 5-speed. Thanx for the good advice!
