Transmission gone in '03 Corolla

Just had my manual 5-speed transmission replaced in my '03 Corolla. Warranty expired at 60,000 and the car has 76,000 on it now. Found one from an '04 with only 1,000 miles on it. I am very disappointed in this car. It appears to be nothing like my old '90 Corolla Wagon which has 421,000 miles on it and is parked in my back yard now (has a knocking in the motor and smokes a little).

Anybody else hear of problems with the manual transmissions on the newer Toyotas; Corollas in particular?

This started with a muffled rumbling sound coming from the transmission in 5th gear and eventually in 4th.

Just checking to see if anyone else know about this.

Thanks!

I'm with you.. the quality of the north american made Toyotas has a long way to go before it ever compares to anything coming out of Japan.

Hey Ren69 my 96 corolla is North American mad with 162k and no major problems, that being said, I had some transmission shudder on my NA made 03 Camry and I took it to the dealer and they downloaded a new prog to ECU and it shifts smoother and is faster to boot! I am going to switch to amsoil synth for oil and trans though.
