one of my friends told me to swap an sr 20 engine into my car, but wouldnt i have to do alot of mods so it can actually fit? like a wide body kit or something too?
So, you have almost 500hp on the stock motor, as did he?

I would think from all my previous encounters that if your comparing the SR20DET to the 3SGTE, the yota motor will always win.
More mileage, more durability, more potential in my opinion.
Ive heard people putting 500+whp on the 3SGTE on stock internals. Thats crazy serious boost... probably somewhere near 20psi after the mods are said and done.
Then again, Ive heard people blowing up SR20DET's just because they went above 6psi on stock internals.
Nissan is a great car, and the SR20DET was a decent setup for its time, but if I was going to do a major swap with a lot of custom work, I woul dhave to ask myself why put a Nissan Engine in a Toyota Frame?? You might as well try to cut and fit an LS6 into it!

Please tell me your drunk, the CA18DET, and SR20DET, can hold inexcess, of 20psi. Do some research. The CA can hold about 370 on stock internals, while the SR can hold 450-500.

oh god, SR20's can take MAD boost all day long. ive seen people with street setups pushing 20psi on stock internals and having no problems at all. Crazy little beast of an engine.
id think the SR20DET and 3SGTE are pretty comparable engines. both 2.0l, both about 200hp stock. aftermarket support on both are good. but neither would go into a corolla without about $10grand.

The motor being inferior to a 3sgte has nothing to do with it's 'internals'. The worst part is that you max out the Geo Metro injectors at about 250whp.... then if you fix that... you still have to deal with the AFM that you can't fit a large marble through. Everything BUT the motor its-self is a bad design if you ask me. So... dump your money into a decent fuel system, a z32 afm, 5 wheel lug conversion... and the electronics to control this madness.... and you will have a decent performing car.
Oh yea.... forgot to mention the almost 90 degree turn the exhaust makes when it comes off of the turbo .
