USA AM reception poor once replaced stock stereo with Pioneer unit

A few months ago, I had my stock stereo on my 2004 Corolla replaced with a brand new Pioneer DEH P7700MP - great stereo!

As soon as I had that swapped, AM reception went to nearly nothing (which was ok with the stock stereo). Fm works ok.

We checked Antena connections - all tight, swapped the Pioneer stereo with identical unit, both got AM reception fine in a different car. However, no AM in my car.

We also re-plugged the stock stereo, seems to get AM ok.

What could be the reason for the AM problem?

Any suggestions how to resolve it?

Pioneer didn't have a clue about it.

It almost seems that there is some sort of an incompatibility between the stereo and the antena... (?)

Any input will be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

Michael

I understand your pondering. Am is great for checking traffic and occasional news, its the best source for traffic, while driving the BUSY LA road system.
