Any way to jack engine from below to change all engine mounts?

Hi all,

In a couple weeks I'll be changing my engine mounts and it won't be easy for me to create an overhang with which to use an engine crane (as the Factory Service Manual instructs). Instead, I'd like to be able to jack the engine from below, but I've been warned that just using a floor jack (and a big piece of wood to distribute the load) might cause the oil sump to cave. Is there an alternative engine jack point (or combination of jack points) that I can use? Or am I stuck creating an overhang for an engine crane?

Also has anyone performed this procedure (and thus do they have any tips in addition to the instructions in the Factory Service Manual)?

Yes, its possible, but easiest so that you keep one or two mounts attached, then replace the other ones.

I will try to keep as many of the other three mounts attached at a time while changing each one.

Do you have any experience doing this? Any tips. A major concern I have is that the bolts through each mount will be too tight to get loosened and out. Thanks!

I'm curious why you would need an overhang for an engine crane? For a pulley hoist you would need it. But the typical home mechanic's crane has long fold-down legs that will roll under the car and stabilize the lifting arm.
