Fitting rear speakers in a '95........................

OK, so I pulled the rear deck, pulled the speakers out &.........YUP...........they're like tissue paper........LOL!!!!

Touch 'em & they wither. Pretty funny.

So, I went to BB & picked up some "Dual XP65" 6.5" speakers, thinking that they might be ever so slightly too big, right?? Wrong!!! They're actually a bit too small.......(well, the screw pattern anyway.)

So now I've got to get the metal ring to match up w/ the 4 holes in the rear deck mount. Here's a pic of the speaker itself..........

http://www.dualav.com/product_indivi...main=26&id=404

Now, there's a raised lip. I'm wondering if I make 2 cuts on either side of the current mounting hole......(but only on the lip portion, of course)..........then bend it outward, flat...........is that something folks would do to mount speakers???

I'm thinkin' it'll work fine, but maybe this is a "ghetto" method & I'll be laughed into oblivion for it??

Agreed!! The gage metal is think enough to tolerate some bending and I have some of those Wiss tin snips I can use at work, so after that all I'll have to do is drill a little hole & maybe elongate it with a dremel, assuming the holes won't match up perfectly anyway.

Done!!! Went well!!!

I did exactly as I described! Cut about 3/8" on either side of each mounting hole w/ a pair of tin snips....(cut the metal easily).......then bent the metal down (outward) so as to *flower* the metal mounting rim a bit. Then I drilled a hole in-line with each of the mounting holes & kinda' routered 'em out to oblong the holes a bit 'cuz it's hard to actually make 'em lineup exactly.

Anyway, got 3 screws in (except for the one in the back against the rear windshield) and I can put the others in when I get home. Sound great. Much louder, cleaner & no distortion unless I really crank it.

Next up.............the fronts!!!!!!!!

(Then maybe an 8" sub in the trunk!)
