All a hubcap does is add style, nothing more. Oh wait, they are also very good at collecting ice and snow in the winter.

the protect the lugs, but honestly how much? espicially if they aren't solid water and such still gets in. Buy good lugs and then you don't need hubcaps, like alot of alloy rims have their lugs exposed...

I got 2 sweet plastic spinners hubs. I used to have 4 but 2 fell off. I still think the 2 I got add about 10 hp each. Well except I have no engine right now

Aerodynamic. You pick up a few .001 sec on 1/4 mile.
They are also lethal weapon when launched properly from a high speed vehicle..

The latter is probably the most useful purpose for them... the metal ring on them can also be used to strangle someone! On that note, many wheel covers have holes in them exposing the lugs anyway.... protection? Naah. It's just that the general public views them to be more attractive than plain steel wheels... I tend to agree with that, though simple silver steel wheels do just fine, thank you...

Once you see them go "swoosh" by the side of the road, bouncing, and crashing into something, you'll know you've spent your best $20 bucks on a set

I too go for the flat black steel look. Mine had hub caps and I took them off. I think they look gawdy IMO.

If I have to have steel wheels, then it's facto-blacks all the way.

Luckily I have had only 1 car that had steel wheels so far.
