well if your trunk is leaking the best thing to do is get the rubber ring around your trunk replaced that should stop the leak i know it did with my buddies wrx that had a small trunk leak.

I found on my 82 Rolla Coupe that the gasket for the tail light assembly was old, cracked , and deteriorating. Since I had some silicon sealant(GE Silicone II) I fixed up the old gasket. But it still leaked a little , so I filled in the gap between the tail light and the body so the rain water runs right down from the hatch gutter over the filled in gap bypassing dropping down to the tailight assembly gasket. No more major water problems and water filled spare tire hole.

Since the crimpped metal that the rubber ring mounts to was rusting a little.
I figure water must be wicking through there somehow. There were a few drips and rust trails on the rear body panel. So I also rust proofed, painted and sealed the seam.

So far it seems no more water has been getting in.

lazyedwin I have the exact same problem, and guess what it's my driver side too. My car was parked outside that night and my whole trucnk was soaked with water. But this is not the first time that happens to me, it's your driver-side taillight. You need to go and buy silicone form Home Depot or Lansing and go around the plastic housing a few times with it. If you're able to take your rear light off, than it's even better.. There's two metal sheets over the rear light, and my guess is Toyota didn't do a great job welding them together. So they leak.

There's also a few other parts were it could leak from! The light gasket, trunk gasket. I didn't know why it was leaking. But I washed the car and made sure enough water ran down the trunk, and then I opened the trunk and found out that there's a lot of water around my left tailight housing.

Tell me how it goes! My plan is just to get a new pair of taillights since mine are bother filled with moisture.

By the way, fix this problem soon, or your whole trunk will rott on you.

Well, you should first solve the leak problem and then dry the water in the tail light...
