Talking Engine mount replacement done!

Hi all,

This weekend I replaced the original engine mounts on my 1993 Corolla with all-new OEM mounts. The improvement is amazing:

- No more thunk when I switch from P/N to D/R.

- No more thunk when I get on or off the gas un-gradually.

- Even though my shocks and springs need replacing, the whole car seems more dampened now that the engine isn't bobbing up and down nearly as much any more.

- No more worrying about babying the throttle to avoid breaking another flex pipe in the exhaust! :-)

The only really annoying part of the job was dropping the center/cross member to change the rear mount.

That rear mount got me too when i replaced it. We ended up just ripping the engine out to do it. Trouble is, the engine blew 1000km after we did it. Such is life... At least i got my 20v out of the engine going

foomanji - How hard is it to replace them? What tools are needed? I have a '94 with 143K and I do get that clunk when shifting from P/N to D/R and when lifting off the gas.

Do you also get a vibration when the transmission shifts in the 40-55 mph range and when turning on a long sweeping highway curve. I have to 3 speed auto.

TIA!!

I did my motor mounts on my 89 about two weeks ago and it makes a big difference. I didn't think I would make that big of a difference but I also didn't just how badly the old mounts were damaged. Alot of the vibration I was hearing from the interior panels also stopped. All in all it was a worth while investment

Suprafreek:

For your convenience (and mine in case I ever do something similar again), I quickly wrote the following:

http://www.vendrix.com/~sbetten/changing_engine_mounts.html

I recommend you download it ASAP in case that server (my friend's) goes down.

I might not be checking up on this thread, so feel free to email me (addy in on that page).
