it just quit...

driving along the highway doing about 60mph and it just shut off, the tach just dropped. I pulled over and tried to start it up and it wouldn't turn over. The accessories worked as i had to close my sun roof and windows but for some reason the engine wouldn't turn over. So i called toyota and had them tow it to be looked at....anyone have a clue???
Its an '05 XRS

Mine did almost the exact same thing, I was doing 70mph and KABOOOOM, engine died,(138,000 miles on original 7afe) was coasting in neutral, decided to pop-start it. Made it about 7 miles on the remaining cylinders until it siezed.... result of spun bearing that con-rod through the block....

Cars getting a 4agze now!

Seymour44, Let us know what happens as I was looking forward to an XRS being my next car in the future.

DUDE .... there both engine's arn't they?? unless an XRS uses an electric traction motor, there might have been some relavance. He never said how many miles were on it but he did say ...

the engine wouldn't turn over.
which is not usually indicative of a fuel pump failure unless new car don't allow the engine to turn over with out fuel pressure, something I didnt' know of.

I know of assembly error's which will cause a spun bearing to occur within the first 30k miles, so it very well could have been a possibility. The original poster didn't give much specifics, but I felt that my experiance was much the same, except for maybe the large explosion from the engine bay... so don't be so quick to judge ...

Problem is.. XRS is brand new.. you wouldn't expect that from that car.. your motor was older.. therefore you never know what to expect.
